View Full Version : Adding LED lights

I'm not that technically gifted, but after seeing a thread involving extending the tire valve on an i180, I'm wondering...

Would it be possible to get a strip of LED lights and mount them inside the spoke covers on an i180's wheels, drilling in the appropriate spot so the LEDs themselves are illuminating through those spoke covers, run the wires for each spoke LED strip together, and mount an on/off switch somewhere inside spoke covers as well? I'd even think there would be room inside one of the covers to mount the battery/power supply for the stips.

What I was thinking: Getting a strip of Roy G Biv LEDs, mounting those strips in each of the spoke covers, and would have a "revolving rainbow."

Feasible?

I did not realize that Pimpstar Wheels (http://www.customwheel.com/custom_wheels/product_info.php/products_id/1687) had come to bicycles.

Interesting.

Sadly the hokey Spokes are a bit TOO big for the segway wheel, no way to adapt them (and I HAVE TRIED)

Well, Jon, I then have a challenge for you:

I am going to look into it as well, but you are far more experienced of a modder...

oh yeah, and if you do it, please help me do the same :)

Seems like it might be a winner...

The site says you only get total persistence at 15mph with a single spoke, so you would probably need two sets per wheel to get a good image out of it.

Yeah, I was thinking of trying 3 even, so that I could be displaying an image while moving at a leisure speed...

it uses a magnet to determine wheel speed. Getting that to read through the wheel might be difficult.
