I am in Philadelphia for a couple of days and last night decided to take a Segway tour of downtown Philly.

I registered myself and a friend on line and we were excited to take the tour. We waited at the bottom of the "Rocky Balboa" steps to theMuseum of Art as the directions said and once even watched the "IGLIDE" van drive by....

No one ever came for the tour.

When I got back to my hotel room later in the evening had an email that the tour was cancelled.

Not a great way to comunicate - we called the number given to us for the tour company and never could get anyone to talk to us - we left several messages.

ick. and to see the truck go by! lets just shove the knife a little further into your side and turn it! what a remarkably bad experience. you deserve to get an actual person from the tour company to share your feedback.

when we expanded our tours to three cities we grew worried about tours falling through the cracks. so we've set up the phone lines to simulring our nextels. we've found no one gets missed and every caller gets to speaks live to a Segway of Indiana employee. i hope your next segtour experience is a pleasant one!

Hello,

My name is Lew Robbins and I am the CEO of I Glide Tours. We operate the tours in Philadelphia. We take great pride in providing the best services to our guest. Unfortunately, in this case, you booked through one of the online services that is allowed to sell our tours. Our online booking system will not allow same day bookings and will make you call our number. When you book same day, they must call us to make the reservation. They only sent our office an email that we received at 5:06pm for a 7pm tour. After 5:00pm, we absolutely have phone coverage so I can only assume that you were calling the internet booking company. The tour had no other bookings as a corporate group rescheduled two days before so there was no one out with the equipment already.

I apologize for this inconvenience. Please contact me at lew@iglidetours.com if you are still in town and I am more than happy to offer you a complimentary tour. I will call this company immediately to clarify their procedures.

Thanks

Lew

This is an example of just one of many reasons that we won't allow ANY outside online service to book our tours. We answer the reservation 'live' 24/7. There are several specific instructions that require personal attention to avoid embarassing mistakes.

Many other Segway tour companies use various online reservation companies to try to increase revenues. But my reasearch showed that if you market correctly, keep critical functions in-house to reduce customer error, and provide a great experience, that the online reservation booking service is expensive and any increased revenue in negligable.....

Lew - My wife in Texas made the reservations - I was not privy to what she did but she tells me that she did book through a tour company - they had two phone numbers that I called rather incessantly. I WOULD HAVE called your phone number if I had the opportunity but as you know they do not share that and would not call me back.

No where did it state that you could not book a tour the same day. They accepted the reservation and the money quite readily.

To all reading this Lew did call me on my cell phone (I left the number with the tour company many times :)) He offered to make it up to me but I had already gotten on a plane (he called me just before take off as a matter of fact.)

We are thankful for hi offer and will try to take him up on it when we go to DC soon.

Thank you Lew.
Bill

Status -
Lew made good on his offer and I took a client on a tour of Philly on the evening tour.

It was great - this was the best tour yet -
1. they have I2's
2. they have headsets that allow you to hear ambient noise and also hear the tour guide
3. beautiul scenery

Highly recommended!
Thank you Lew!

I am in Philadelphia for a couple of days and last night decided to take a Segway tour of downtown Philly...No one ever came for the tour...

Bill,

Coincidentally, I'm in Philly right now as well (until Sunday morning). We were going to take the iGlide tour down museum row on Monday night, but weren't real impressed when we talked to iGlide on the phone.

If you don't mind driving three hours, we went on the Washington, DC, tour last night - the sunset tour, through Capital Segway (http://capitalsegway.com)... and LOVED it. I have my i180, Gilligan, at home in Arizona, but Bill hadn't really ever used it. Last night, I was given an XT lean steer to use, Bill was given an XT model that was more like my i180... and he LOVED it, too! Now, when we get back home, I'm sure on weekends there's going to be some "fight-it-out-for-Gilligan-time" moments! :-)

But the staff at Capital Segway was great. We got there very early in the afternoon to see some sights on our own (weird thing... on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, someone approached me, called me by name... someone I'd graduated high school with 30 years ago in Lebanon, County, Pennsylvania that I hadn't seen since graduation night), and was done doing that an hour before the tour. Steve let us hang out in the store. The tour guides, Dave and Lenore, were excellent, patiently giving everyone their ten-minute training, and then off we went... all 16 of us, plus the two guides. The glide was, easily, 7 or 8 miles, going to the White House, the Mall (though not actually up and down mall, but around it), the Smithsonian Institute, the Ellipsis in front of the Capitol Building, then back to the shop. Along the way, of course, get stopped and approached by pedestrians asking about unit, and D&L seemed happy to have an experienced glider with them, who could tell people what I used Gilligan for. One of the other guys on the tour, there with his wife and two kids from St. Louis, dropped back to talk to me about the Segs and asked where I bought mine, used, since he now knew "what everyone was going to want for Christmas."

Bill loved it so much, now on Saturday we're either doing the iGlide tour, or the Ride 'N' Glide tour in Atlantic City (just an hour east of Philly).

Today just a kick-back day at the hotel out here in Trevose. Tomorrow is my 48th birthday, as well as my sister's 49th birthday, and the four of us are going to "Wicked" at the Kimmel Center. Saturday, a glide somewhere... and Sunday, home.

And once we get home, the search begins for a good, used i2 or x2 lean steer!

Eric,

Don't over look us in Sea Isle City...15 minutes south of Atlantic City. We have i2's and I don't believe the company in Atlantic City does. We also have zero restrictions on were we are allowed to go.. that's right we glide the boardwalk (or Promenade as its called here) too! Check out our website or call us at 1(877)SEGWAYS for further information (either ask for Jonathan or Jamie). Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you soon. This weekend is supposed to be just beautiful, great Jersey Shore weather!!!

Ah, Jamie, if I had only known that on Tuesday....

Unfortunately, looks like the rest of our time here in area is spoken for - tomorrow night, we've got "Wicked" tickets and, for the first time in 30+ years, my sister and I will be spending our birthday together. Saturday morning, we've got an iGlide here in Philly (Yep... Bill's now a SegHead, he friggin' loved it), then we fly out Sunday morning.

And, to be honest, we hated Atlantic City; it's changed so much in the last ten years - I spent summer in AC in 1997 writing "Titanic: The Experience" for a local promoter, and flew Bill out for vacation - it was completely unrecognizable to us. The Steel Pier gone, replaced by outlet shops? The hotels allowed to build dunes right up against the east side of the boardwalk, completely blocking ocean view unless you go down to one of their tiki bars, or rent a room from them? James' taffy giving up their 100+ year location to move into the Tropicana lobby... and the prices reflect they're now in the Tropicana lobby?

Nope. Hated it. Won't ever be back.
