I recently made a post that made sense to me, but may have been mis-interpreted or thought of as mis-directed.

I was responding, or so I thought, to a comment made by a friend of mine, but that I did not agree with...

That statement was,

"Anyone can post endlessly, but what others think about them is where the rubber meets the road.

As they say Quality is better than Quanitiy"

I have absolutely no problem with the author of that statement. I have come to respect his opinion on much, and value his counsel on many topics.

That said, I maintain that I do not believe that what others think of me is where any rubber meets anything, and I do not believe that popularity is the same as quality.

I do, however, agree that Quality is better than Quantity.

I just did not agree that the presumption that quality can be measured by popularity.

When I allow my children exta desert, but don't require they finish their vegatables first, I am more popular with them. I would not say it is my highest quality moment as a father, however...

Having a positive influence is a combination of being popular enough to be listened to, yet saying the things that need to be said. If you are a wet blanket all the time, you will loose everyone's ear. If you only say popular things, you will eventually loose it as well, because you are not advancing the issue.

Again, I would like to stress that I did not take offense or did not mean to offend Will Hopper, as I believe him to be a valuable contributor to this forum, the Segway community, and I consider him a friend.

"Everybody's Friend is Everybody Fool"

You gotta go with what you feel is right, but also be big enough to listen to other's differing oppinions, and then adjust your own thoughts if those alternating ideas make sense in that situation.

I think we all learned in High School that being the most popular kid (though important at the time) really did not amount to a hill of beans in the overall scheme of life.

I was always the odd kid out, because I liked and did things that were not the norm, still do to this day! Which is funny as an adult, because you can, though you are still looked upon as a strange duck!

We all have to be our own person!

But we have to be that person within a society of others.
