Sweet!
Jonathan
The first picture is outstanding! He was called 'Thomas the Magic' and he made two first places (i2 and x2 races), with several seconds lead to the runner-up!
BTW, it wasn't me but another 'Joe' who took the picture.

Were the i2s raced against Gen1s?

I think Thomas won the XT race last year too. The guy to beat, I guess! Oh, and great photo!

Does anyone else tuck their LSF away in this manner? Is it his i2 that calls him Magic? Position looks uncomfortable, but perhaps it allows you to overpower the speed limiter.

Were the i2s raced against Gen1s?Can anyone please confirm whether the i2s were pitted against the Gen1s? I'd like to know so I can further consider my belief that i2s are actually quicker than Gen1s when raced with lots of turning involved. I know they both have the same top speed but some people are adamant Gen1s are quicker and will out perform the i2s.
Thanks.

Gareth, straightline drag racing will depend on the software version of the gen1 unit in question. The varying versions have different acceleration curves.
In the twisties, there's no question that gen2 is quicker, simply because it doesn't require you to slowdown to make a full lock turn. Your traction might be compromised, but that machine will turn as fast as you want. A gen1 with the grip turned all the way will slowly begin turning and will lower your speed until you are spinning in place.

Gen1 and Gen2 I series were, if I'm not mistaken, separate categories.

In the twisties, there's no question that gen2 is quickerI think the fluidity of the movement also helps to make it better when lots of corning is involved, going from corner to corner and when covering rough ground. But I wish the race in Steyr had have been on mixed Gen1 and i2s. I'd loved to have been there to race, or time trial the machines. Maybe next year. Anyway, I believe the results would have been interesting. Thanks for the answer, Florin.

Wow
Great fotos. I viewed them all and only saw one person on their backside. Quite a feat considering they appeared "all out" in the endeavor. I also took notice of the wrist, elbow, and knee protection. I might make a trip to the bike store considering my past history. Right now I'm just wearing helmet and gloves. But great shots.http://www.e-steyr.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album08&op=modload&name=fotogalerie&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1

AWESOME photos, especially the race pictures! Really professional!
About the "53 attended 2007" section... there were 3 attendees from Czech Republic, 2 from Spain, 0 (zero) from Scotland ;), probably more than 27 from Germany and more than 7 from Austria (at least if you count the team members as well), and I'm only aware of 2 guys from France (but I may wrong)...
Nevertheless, it was a GREAT event and I'm really looking forward to the "2008 edition"... 359 days until MAMS 2008. :(

Joe i am from Scotland and that was me that registered.....although i now reside in Spain. But as you know we (2 spain) withdrew from the competition and will never return.
I will support France in 2008 and Spain in 2009 segfests. At least we will have skill events and race in what we feel comfortable.

Oops... I thought about Gareth who was prevented.

Yes, although I personally think that's somehow wrong. After all it was a race, and the 4 or 5 accidents (one requiring medical assistance) showed clearly the difference between Segway "gliding" and "racing"...

i totally agree joe. and i am sure all the other attendees also do. it was a tough course, hard to manage and for that quite dangerous. as we saw it would have been very careless to ride without proper protection. i myself lost the control over my seg in the first S while searching for the next tenth of a second. without helmet and proper knee and elbow protection the following flight would have been quite memorable for me...
the event had the true feeling of a real race. with qualifying, electronic lap times and everything around which defines a real race. i cant thank boris and all the other who helped made this happen enough for this experience. defenitly on of the highlights of the meeting. i hope there will be a race next year....

As people run in the Olympics an crosscountry at far faster speeds without gear, it should have been our choice. Marta would have competed with gear an me without but we where not given a choice as we were last year. The lack of a skill event (my main reason, to defend my first place) on safety grounds was crazy. 10 people at full speed around trees or 1-2 people around plastic cones competing, which has the higher risk factor?
The day the Olympics enforces helmets, pads and a wrist guard (that affects steering of a segway on an i series) i will contemplate using them, until then i prefer to have a choice. After all we did sign an imdemnity form on the first day.
