I have read through several of the threads about using the Segway in a Simon mall but this evening I was told I could not use it in their parking lot.

My vision is poor and I have 2 Segways, one for me and one for my daughter. We use them to get to the mall and go out to eat. I have never tried to ride it inside anywhere.

I am in Kokomo In. The Segway is legal and I have never had any trouble from the police or any business.

I was just wondering if anyone has insight into this.

I do not see how they can keep a legal form of road transportation out of the lot. The security officer said Segways and skateboards are not allowed.

I guess I can carry it around like a skateboard.

Thank you

Mike Marcum

Mike,

That is unfortunate. Although since you do use yours as a mobility aid and you don't drive you have a justification for using it on Simon Property.

Tarkus, can you help?

I have only heard, like you, of not being allowed in Simon Malls, but the parking lot is something else altogether. Although it is private property, the Segway SHOULD be allowed where other conveyances are allowed...I have seen bike racks at Simon parking lots... why aren't Segway's allowed.

This is interesting. If the lots are owned by Simon then they will stand by their policy, however illegal that is.

I have been to one of their "Town Center" malls and didn't have a problem, but I can't tell you that security saw me either.

This is always a though call, personal choice. Leave or stay and see what type a crime you would be charged with.

The issue here is who owns the lots. In many cases, like the Mall here the lots and streets are "deeded" to the city, so until you hit Simon property it's the state/city law.

I agree with Sal on the Bike deal, seems a little contradictory, no surprise as most of the policies are based on assumptions.

As soon as you hit their property, be it lot, street or sidewalk they can then proceed with their illegal policy.

Thats all I can tell you right now, I'm sure we will see many pages of the same discussion that this always brings.

Be Big,
Alan

Thanks for you insight. I will probably just keep doing what I have been and see what happens.

Thanks
