Hi all, I'm looking for some opinions on if this is a good advertising opportunity for tour operators or not...
I've been approached by the publisher of a series of guide book / coupon book titles. They are very nicely done, very professional, glossy gift books. They sell for $90, list about a hundred different activities, and include a coupon good for any one activity. (Valued at $80 - $100.)
Their pitch is this: You (tour operators) can have an ad in one of their books at no charge, and it will bring you traffic. Some people will redeem the free coupon at your place, some of those using their coupon might bring a paying friend, and others may come without a coupon after seeing your ad.
The deal is this: You must agree to honor the first two coupons each month for free. After that, you will get reimbursed $20 for each additional coupon that month.
So assuming an $80 tour, you're "paying" $160 a month for those first two customers, and $60 for every coupon customer thereafter. (The books seem to be geared towards vacationers, which could mean no repeat business from these acquired customers.)
If you can't tell, I'm not convinced... But I'm not a tour operator and I might be way off base! Does this sound like a high cost to acquire a customer, or is it actually a good deal?
Anybody with an opinion - tour operator or not - please give some feedback and let us know what you think!
Thanks,
Joe
