Hey guys, I'm a long time forums member, but as I see, the forums did a switch-a-roo and I had to reregister.

Anyway, I'm a poor college student searching for a Seg to use at robotics competitions (yeah I'm part of FIRST), use at school, at home, and various other places. I can't afford a new i2, plus I like the look of the older i167/i170 models. I was wondering what the average price for a used i167/i170 model is. Heck, even an used p series would suit my needs.

I won't be buying for probably a year due to lack of funds (and the fact I'm going to be getting a co-op that'll pay for this), so ballpark figures would be nice. I'm looking for things in the > or = $2000 range. I'm fine with used models with some scratches and battle scars, I just want a unit that will run, batteries that'll last (I'm open to buying new ones though), and wheels that aren't worn out.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Joe

I've found four Gen 1 segways (including some i180's and an e167) for $1500 each over the last 6 months. If you dig around (and not wait for the deal to fall in your lap), you should be able to find a good deal like this. The key is to call around asking dealers and tour operators if they're turning over their rental fleet. Also, these are the folks that'll give you a good tip for which of their customers is willing to sell at a nice price.

$2000 should be doable. I'm assuming from your above post that you're willing to take an i167 with old NiMH that only give you 5 miles range. As you might expect, used NiMH batteries with more life in them come up on Ebay with amazing regularity.

Not only make some bucks for the Seg, but get to learn a little more about it.

Dealers are always looking for energetic Segway Enthusiastic People to work for them in their shops.

Right now Annapolis is looking for someone to man our Segway Tour Shop on a regular basis.

Hmm

Will you pay for my commute? I do like Segways. And I have a little experience. (I have 7)

Can I keep the tips?

Marty

OPTA - Yup, he planning to muscle in on Steve Wozniack's position in the world of segway polo. Dr. Marty gots the same number of machines. He also has the raw talent pool down in SoCal. He doesn't know it but I can tell he's quietly putting together a hand-picked polo team. And then he's going to "dark horse" us all at the Woz World Cup in Sept!

I am considering this, as there's a dealership (I kid you not), 5 miles from my college (Segway of Dayton)! I do plan on doing some work there to kick-start my purchase.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I've been looking on ebay and other sites to see how much deals are going for. Thanks plo for the recomendation of checking rental/tours, I'll keep that in mind. I don't mind weak batteries as I can replace them, I want a strong machine that works more-so. :D

But your commute, like mine, is a pay-your-own-way deal.

Now with your long distance commute, I would think you would want to maybe spend the night one or two days a week, now we do have a room up above the shop. All we need is the aero bed!

And the shop used to be a Barber Shop, so we get a few USNA alumni coming by wondering where to get a shave and a haircut!

This shop is so well located that the only thing that would be better is if they were smack-dab on the waterfront (and they are close, believe me!).

The best thing is they are right next door to a USAA office so the buyer can buy their Segway and their insurance in one quick stop!
