The Washington Post wrote, "Unlike the tourist version of the Segway, the police model does not have pink accents... The Segways have an electronic chip that officers snap off to disable them when taking breaks." There's a WaPo link is in the News section at http://forums.segwaychat.com/showthread.php?t=15559

What pink accents are they talking about? And, why should pink accents be only for tourists? Have other police departments tried pink accents? Are pink accents sold separately so we could outfit the bike officers with pink accents, too?

As there is no "tourist version" and no "chip to snap off", I guess it's the standard ignorance of the reporter... maybe he/she saw a custom colored Segway once.

The Tourist version that this reporter is reffering to is the Segs in the City Tour operation (one of the FIRST Segway Tours in the world) Otis on this site is a poster and an owner of Segs in the City. And their Segways are PINK......

And the chip to snap off is - the Info Key on the I-2's - which if you think about it is a chip and it does snap off.

So this time the Reporter had it right, just their terminology was a bit different than ours. Wordsmiths, they love to make things sound so interesting, but then again that is what a reported is paid to do.

By that logic, my laptop is a chip, and I snap it off when I remove it from the docking station.

I know that my chips snap off if I make the dip too thick...

Great to see that Segs in the City provided the "Tourist Versions" of the Segway to the DC Pride Parade organizers (though on yellow key, as I saw a lot of stick kickback) while the DC Police were on their I2's

Kudos to Segs in the City for their participation in the Pride Parade.

And great to see the Segways in action working crowd control, which they do so well.

We were on our I2 and a borrowed X2, it was great to have that extra height to be able to see over the throngs of folks linining the streets cheering on the parade.

Also cool to be on a Segway and not in a parade for once, since DCSEG folks seem to be in a lot of parades.

Odd that the Washington Post would fixate on Segs in the City; there are two other tour companies in town, and both are bigger than Segs in the City (prolly in no small part because of the pink--nothing funnier than seeing some aging businessman on a pink segway wearing a pink helmet and an embarrassed look). Capital Segway, for example, sold the machines featured in that story, and they run an entire fleet of new black i2s. Guess they're just more noticable...
