The July/August issue of Science Fiction magazine Analog contains an entertaining novella by Bud Webster entitled Bringing it All Back Home.
A Segway (actually an RMP) plays a modest-but-essential role in the story.
This is a Science Fiction story (as opposed to fantasy). If you don't hate Science Fiction, I recommend getting a copy at your local book/magazine store.

Wow! Is Analog still going? I used to read it 45 years ago. I'll have to look out for it!

Yeah, and it still prints only Science Fiction, not Fantasy (witchcraft, etc.). And it's available on most newstands, although it sometimes gets buried. Small format (readers digest size).
Also "Asimov's SF" - which contains a lot of Fantasy stuff, but also "hard" SF.
If you read SF years ago, you'll enjoy this story. Then you'll have to go find the several previous stories on the same theme by the same author.

Dale, thank you for the very kind words! A friend pointed me in your direction, I hope you don't mind if I reply here.
The folks at Segway were extremely helpful when I was researching the story, both from a technical perspective and from a legal one. They went out of their way to answer all my niggling little questions, and followed up to make sure I got it right.
I'm delighted you liked the story; I'm partial to old-school sf myself. Remember all those great old Groff Conklin anthologies?
