Just thought I would tell you that I was invited to ride my segway in our town's (Sayreville,NJ) Memorial Day Parade. Everything went well. Lots of people with the usual expressions and one liners. "Hey is that thing fun to ride" and "I've heard of those but never saw one in person" and "How do you make it go?" and "How much does it cost?" and the list goes on and on.
I loved hearing some people tell me I was cheating while everyone else was marching but two cops actually said I had the right idea and thought it was cool. Heh. I wasn't sure what type of reaction I'd get from our local law enforcement but so far so good.
Highlight of the day was having the mayor come up to me and ask me questions and he told me, "That thing looks like a lot of fun..." I even offered to let him try it but he respectfully declined. :)
Anyway just wanted to share.

Thanks for sharing!
I was in a local Holiday parade last year, and had a similar pleasant experience. I wore a Santa hat, wrapped tinsel rope and battery-powered string lights around the Leansteer frame, and tossed Tootsie Rolls to kids at the curb.
I gave our mayor a ride, and he loves 'em! St. Petersburg Police have at least four units now, and the Largo Police Chief and his Deputy Chief love 'em, too, and would have them, except for budget constraints.

IndySEG has participated in the yearly Fishers Freedom Festival Parade, as well as the Liberty Parade for the past two years. We'll be doing it again this year too! If anyone is interested, head over to:

We'll all set to go this year!
The more the merrier!

We did a halloween one a year or so back dressed in costume. Last Labor Day we supported one of our members who was running for office, had the SegShaw out and his wife and daughters rode in that.
This spring we did the Greek Parade in Baltimore, which was lots of fun and just recently we did a local small town parade in close in Virginia and it was great fun.
And I travel out to Indiana every summer just to do the parades out there, we did Liberty and College Corner Indiana Independance Day Parade for two years (they were held in neighboring towns one at noon, the other at 4 pm - so it was perfect to do 2 parades in one day) and then last year and this year will be the Fishers Freedom Festival Parade.
The best part about the Segways - as anyone knows that these towns are CHOKED with cars and people during the parade set up, so there is no way you can get to the parade unless you are either walking or on your Seg. So having the Segway is great, you park out where you can, and glide to the parade starting area, and off you go.
The only thing with parades is the hurry up and wait time at the beginning, then within moments the parade is all over.

As we are sharing - here is a few curious looking Gardai (Irish Police). We ran through just before the parade to advertise events that were on for the festival.
Approx 600,000 people were on the street to watch the parade. I can relate entirely to the opening posters comments on the questions.
Huge Garda presence as you can see from all the high vis jackets. They had lost of questions and could see the benefits for policing straight away.
