View Full Version : Mitigating lower cargo bag leg slap

I don't care what anybody says about the faults of the cargo bags. I like them and use them all the time.

One of the flaws, though, is that, for me at least, the brackets slap my legs at the sides of my knees when I go obliquely across something like a sidewalk rain trough. The base rocks back and forth and the brackets whack my legs, which kinda smarts.

What mitigates this is when I move my feet in next to the center console. I was used to having my feet out next to the gearboxes for stability on my 167, but with the i2's smoother ride I don't feel any less stable. Slowing down before going across such grooves also helps.

I'm hopefully going to be picking the lower cargo kit up next week (no bags). I hope it's not a big prob. I like my feet where they already are. Is it actually the cargo kit that gets you or the plates on top?

The plates are low and out of your legs' way, but the bolt-on brackets for the bags come up to about level with my knees (I'm 6' 3" tall). The brackets are what slap one's legs. Though the bags detach quickly from the brackets, the brackets themselves attach to the plates with four bolts and nuts each. So they're not quick-release.

It just takes a bit of extra shifting around of one's feet and such to get around the "confinement" of the bags. I consider the extra effort is worth the convenience of the bags. I'd say they'd be especially worth it for you if your climate is at all rainy.

I have the side cargo plates mounted in the outer holes and this will stop them from whacking your legs. The only thing is that you no longer will go throught a 30" door.

Thanks, Billy! That's just it, though. I need and want to go through those kind of doors!

Moving the plates out makes the width of the machine increase another 4-5 inches. Far too wide for my comfort zone.
