What a difference, never thought I would like them.
Tonight I went out for some errands and the comfort mats were great, especially since I went out with some local SEG members last week skating (and ended up with a twisted ankle) so it was great to glide in such comfort.

I must agree. My new comfort pads are not only comfortable, but far superior to any pad I have used to date.
Kudos!

Agreed. My favorite part of the mat is the traction you get on it. Next time you're standing on it, try to slide your foot if there is ANY weight on it. Very cool mat.

And they feel so different than the standard equipment mat that came with the Gen Two. It is the difference of standing on concrete and a nice carpet.
These really are comfort mats, They are not all squishy but are firm and supportive which keeps your feel of the glide, but they are also comfortable, that you do not think about your feet any more.
I am glad they have more traction, as the I2 is much more atheletic in it's movements, so it is good you stick to the machine like glue.
For sure a must-have accessory!
I had a short, and I mean short (90sec) stand on them earlier this week and they were quite comfortable, I feel an extended tryout coming on.... I LOVED my gen 1 comfort mat.

I'm considering cutting similar holes in my Gen 1 comfort mat. It should allow the material to compress a bit more, giving me a bit more squish.

I think that the Gen2 Comfort mat is mounted to an aluminum baseplate. Would you have to to do the same to your gen 1 mat (mounting it on something) to get the same effect? Or is the friction between the footmat and the comfort mat enough to compensate for the newly added holes?

The new mat is soft enough to compress and conform to the tread on your shoes, helping hold you in place-- so it does not reduce your footing while it has these larger openings in the design.
The metal plate is sandwiched between the top layer and the backing of the mat. There is no metal on metal happening with them and they install perfectly into the i2's powerbase.
I highly recommend getting them if you do longer glides.

I'm not sure what you mean, sal. Let me post a diagram of what i'm talking about. Please excuse my horrible MSPAINT skills, photoshop isn't authorized on this machine. The little grey ovals are what I would be cutting out.

The two are so different. The Gen one mat is a foam pad that goes on top of the platform pad. Very simple.
The Gen two is a replacement pad for the platform, so it is constructed differently.
Stop into your local dealer and check them out.

Hellphish, I misunderstood what you meant. Will is right in that the two mats are constructed differently.
I do now see what you mean, but if I understand your modification (in cutting long oval holes in the mat), you may be losing a great deal of foot stability in the end. Unless you want to brace the spaces you'll be cutting out with some other material... I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice with that mod.
The gen2 comfort mats cushion and push down and into the aluminium baseplate they're mounted on, so there's not nearly any front back shift or leeway.
Again, I apologize if I am misunderstanding your illustration.
