We are very late this season with our first real snow...
I took out the e, and took the kids for a little ride...

I was very pleased with my Kett tires (Chen Shin 186) because when I have done this in the past, I always used Zorba's Studded tires.
This time, no bother, just out into the snow. I still have the spinners on!

that is the coolest thing ever! Wish we had snow here! [and I wish I had those tires!]. Allie has never seen snow before as an Orlando native but I remember back in '74 when we had a flurry.
Can't imagine segging below 60 degrees....

Segging in the snow is fun..
Coldest I've been out on the seg was -15c (+5f). Actually beyond segways temp specifications for the batteries.

the only time I rode my old i167 in the snow on standard tyres, the porr thing got so confused by all the sliding that the software crashed and I had to do a full reboot.

I was out yesterday on snow, also with standard tires. I was more than once at the machine's limits - or at the tire's limits.
With Ketts it would definitly be better.

As Ryan can attest, we pushed the limits on stock tires on snow, and found that the limits were pretty low. I have since gone to ETT's (Thanks Zorba) and while I miss being able to do the donuts and broadslides I did with my stock tires, I appreciate being able to stay in control and on the Segway quite a bit. The stock tires on a Gen 1 are about useless on snow. The stock tires on an I2 are MUCH better. I can't give a direct comparison between the ETT's and the I2 tires, but I think on snow they are pretty close. The ETT's would probably have a slight edge on ice, but without studs, nothing is going to be great on ice.

I've put a few snow miles on the x2 this past week. After having ridden an XT around for a few days the previous week, I made objective comparisons between the two and.........wait for it............ the XT won.
I say objective... I rode the same routes, into the same buildings, over the same ice and snow, loaded and unloaded into the same truck. No pre-concieved preferences at all.
I love the x2's ride, but. It's too wide to go through a lot of doors. I know, it's not meant to be inside. But it's winter, it's Calgary, and I have used both to go to the hospital for therapy. The XT fits inside doors, the x2 had to be left behind or turned sideways and dragged. Not cool.
On snow and ice, the lean steer did not give me the warm fuzzies that I'd hoped for. It was far too easy to be off balance in a heartbeat. Also, trying to power assist the x2 up a pair of ramps with wet and partially snow covered tires was ENORMOUSLY frustrating. It took more than 1/2 hour to load it on Friday after the hospital. With the XT, I use a hitch hauler.
traction wise, the XT out performs the x2, at least in snow and ice. The tires are about the same performance wise. Overall, and quite surprising to me in all honesty, The XT came home from the store with me today, and I left the X2 behind.
I'm thinking we may just have to hang onto the XT demo a while longer....
