I'm considering taking my Segway to the beach. Can anyone offer any suggestions/issues I might have as a result? I wouldn't be in the water, but it would be wet sand...

Jason,
Do you have big tires or regular i-series tires. Newport Beach Segway says the narrow tires should not be taken on the sand. I presume they just sink in too much, but I didn't ask. In my opinion salt water and metal don't mix, but I know people take them on the sand.

Regular, i2
I would not recommend it, soft sand is a NO GO

Wouldn't the sand near the water not be soft? It's more compacted

I can hear your I2 screaming, "Don't make me go!"

I use my i2 on the beach regularly. the soft sand is tougher to handle and you need to use care. Once you get to the hard pack it is a blast.
I have also gone into the ocean with mine and had no problems. This is not something I would recommned though. Once I got home I took a hose to the unit and cleaned it up carefully.

I glide at the beach every day. I've only taken mine out to the water once. I have a i170 with stock rubber.
It's OK to glide on sand wet enough to support you and Ginger, but it's kind of a pain to get it there, depending on how much dry sand you have to get through. I did it once as a novelty, but doing it on a regular basis will be subjecting your machine to nasty elements too often.
Even on the boardwalk with no wind, sand gets in every little crevice. When I remove the batteries, there's even sand between the battery and the platform. There's no avoiding it. This means having to clean your PT more often, and cleaning can also be hazardous if not done properly. Be careful when hosing off the platform; do not use a spray nozzel.
Some public beaches also forbid vehicles. Segways might fall into the same catagory as a jetski depending on the law at the beach. Check that out.
Happy gliding. Any view of the water is always great.

You're welcome. Just something to take one's mind off of the upcoming winter's weather for those in the colder climes.
Aw, that was an easy one. I just used the search feature on poster:macgeek and subject:Hawaii!

Without an X-series I wouldn't try it. The X is amazing. I've seen it go down steep hills twice.

The technology in the Seg and the excitment riding it is my justification for the price of admission, but these things are just expensive enough that I wouldn't want Inc telling me I should have better sense, we can't warranty your water logged batteries, that will be $1600 please plus the shipping, have a nice day. Aaaagggghhhh, causes night mares just thinking about it.
Call me paranoid but .....................................

No not paranoid. As I said in an earlier post INC would frown upon such use and void your warranty.

Riding in soft sand can be tricky- even with my King trail Kt 962 tires but after a hard rain the sand is hard enough to ride on. Riding down by the waters edge i s fun only on very rare occasions. That salt water is not the best stuff for the Seg
Very kool picture by McGeek though
