hello guys,

I have seen 2 cases where one of the battery charge indicator lights stays solid green, even after days when the other one is pulsing. Why does one battery never go to the balancing stage? Any ideas, any similar experiences?

regards,

cagatay

On mine, the rear battery goes to pulsing about 1 hour before the front one does. You might try reversing the batteries and see if that makes any difference. You might also check to see if the battery with the constant green is warm to the touch. If you have a voltmeter, you might check the voltage of the two batteries and see if there are any big differences. It could be a defective battery.

The old machines didn't show as much information about the battery status as the i2, with its separate bank lights.

I suspect some of these issues happen on older models, but no one can see them so easily...

My back battery takes a couple hours longer to charge than bank A. B also gets a warm spot during use. The front one stays cool and reciently, I got a C100 error riding around for only 5 miles, with 4 bars left and it was only 57 degrees.

Hi,

can You still power up Your Segway? If so, it is ok, but it seems that You have an upcoming battery problem. This is just a guess , but...

...I tell You my story: My HT didn't start a month ago, it showed red light and made a safety shutdown. My rear battery (Li-Ion) was changed because it was considered dead. This didn't solve the problem. I brought the HT to the dealer, to check the machine. I told the dealer, the new rear battery goes into maintainance charge after some time, the front battery never leaves ballance charge after quick charging - it didn't leave ballance charge for some days and it was pretty warm. (That is what I remember hearing Your problem.) The dealer checked this battery and found out, that it has all currents like a new battery, but was not accepted by the HT. He told me that the electronic circuits in the battery may have a failure. Now my HT has 2 new batteries and works fine (newest software 14.?).

Most of my Li-Ion charging is done on off-board chargers, so I've got a fair amount of experience in watching them charge. I've used brand new batteries (mounted for the first time on Eeyore) and used batteries, so I have a wide breadth of experience too.

My experience is that after 12 or more hours of charging the batteries always get a warm spot on one side (assuming the connector is facing up), but not the other side. When I monitored their charging closely during my SF->LA trip, I did notice that one of the batteries in the pair would stay in solid LED charging longer than the other...sometimes this difference in charging state persisted for over a half hour. Also there were disconcerting times when all the LEDs on the offboard charger would stay off for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. And as I remember, it wasn't always temperature dependent.

I will point out that every one of my batteries eventually changed from solid LED to blinking LED. So if after 24 hours of charging you still have solid LED, then I'd say you have a problem.

ps - Someone tried putting their flaky battery in the refrigerator (possibly freezer) for a while. It went from giving a red LED to charging normally...for a while. I don't remember if they had further problems with it? You might try this, but I have to caution you that you're taking a risk and could make things worse by trying things like this.
