But would you buy now or wait for the "debugging in the next hear.

After my 180 I'll wait a year.

Tarkus,

I understand your concerns about the 1.0 release(s). but I think that the major "debugging" for the issues that have cropped up over the years, have been addressed...

The only "new" issues are the mechanics of the leansteer frame, etc. But from what I have seen of the powerbase, frame, etc... I think it's pretty solidly constructed, etc.

I thought that the Segway was perfection when it first came out... (save for a few little things, like the charging lights)...

I am humbled at how much better the i2 is than my gen 1 machines.

I have no qualms about purchasing this machine... I don't consider it a v1.0, but rather a 2.0

IMHO.

For a newb considering the i2 as his first, what can folks say about how the company has handled commonly reported problems? In other words, were efforts made to fix or replace problematic components or did owners have to just come up with DIY workarounds themselves? Have they had recalls and how are they on warranty repairs for stuff like that? I'm sure I could dig through the forums here for days of reading on an issue like this, but I figured I'd ask for the Cliff notes version from some of the veterans. Thanks.

I see you complain about the 180 a lot, Tarkus, saying that you're concerned about the reliability of anything new because the 180 was somehow a faulty product.

Did you know that the i180 was like 95% the exact same machine as the 167? In fact, besides cosmetic issues, it essentially was a 167. Maybe you had some battery problems with the lithium ions discharging completely. That problem was with the batteries and not with the mechanics of the machine, however.

To say that the 167 is some god of a machine (which it was) and the 180 was an inferior product is to say that someone who's gotten a haircut is inferior. Maybe the cosmetics don't fit your fancy, but they're really the same person. I think maybe it was just bad luck; failure rates on 180's should be the same as the 167.

Early on I thought the support was great.

As the release of these new Segs approached sudden "supply" problems came up, CS, connectors etc for the old models.

I,as one who has a 167 and a new 180 question INCs support of a product that was their "State of the Art" model" just a year ago.

Lets see if they change or turn their back on the support of older models.

By the way, I have already heard from an industrial buyer who is reconsidering the use of the Seg based on the new model and questions about cargo.

They already have 9 HT's.

We will see.

Neelix,

Yes I understand better than most that the 167 & 180 are almost the same unit.

Just as the "new" Seg is mostly the same from the lower guts down.

That being said, I'm not the only one that found that some of the "issues" with the 180 did not exist on the 167/170.

I could start with CS creep and move to people with brand new bad Lions.

Bad luck, no just the observations of users here and my own "issues"

Your on here plenty and I'm sure you read the problems and lack of response to them recently.

That's why I would wait, now the dealers here would see otherwise.

Regards,
Alan

As with any product, there are always problems when a user is switched from a direct touch to a one- or two-tier model.

In the early years all Segway buyers / users were direct touch. That is, all users bought direct, had direct contact with Segway, and got used to this personalized service.

As Segway moves into a more mature model, that of one-tier (Segway -> dealer -> consumer) or two-tier (Segway -> distributor - dealer - consumer), there will be complaints about support and service.

However, if you wait a short period you will find that service and support will increase, especially as we dealers, now stake-holders, become more and more adept and skilled at supporting the end user.

Give it time...it will get better.
