Billy,
How many Weimeraners do you have? I've had three but am currently dogless (being single and traveling a lot).
I miss my gray ghosts!

Well done, Billy! Great video--we can tell you love these machines by the amount of time you spent on the video and the number of details you covered about its operation. Much appreciated.
Edit: I still haven't seen much footage about steering backwards, and I've heard that it's a little different than people expect at first. It looks like you lean the stick to the OUTSIDE of the turn if you're backing up. True?

Great video! Im gonna get one next week, cant wait :)
And the weimeramer is a real winner :) . That dog has moxie. That said, the one thing I noticed was how quickly the rider stopped when the dog got in his path, even though the rider was busy salomming (that doesn't look like it's spelled right) at a fairly quick pace, just prior to the stop.
Great comments, Billy.

The safety video is very clear about not steering while going backward because of that fact. Yes, you would steer to the outside of the turn in reverse.

Wonderful video! I appreciate the time you put into making it. I learned a lot about the new machines and I am anxious to try one! This is really exciting!

You are right. You lean the stick to the OUTSIDE of the turn when backing up.
In my brief experience on the new models, it actually feels the same steering in reverse as with the old twist grip steering. If you twisted the grip to the left and went forward, you turned to the left. If you left the grip twisted to the left but then went backwards, you turned in the opposite direction backwards. It does the same now: lean the control shaft to the left and you turn left going forward. Leave it leaned to the left and back up, you turn the opposite direction.
But is it really turning the opposite direction?
If you think about it, when twisting the old grip to the left or leaning the new control shaft to the left while going forward it turns you to 'face' more to the left. If you then back up with the same 'twist grip' or 'lean shaft' to the left, it still turns you to 'face' more to the left. But our brain thinks of that motion as turning the base in the opposite direction.
To me, either the old or new steering backwards makes the same kind of total sense if you think of it as directing the segway to make you 'face' more in the direction you are steering towards. Just don't think about what the wheels are doing underneath you to make you 'face' more in that direction.
It is hard to put this concept in words, but it makes sense when I am doing it.

Your're right! Your explanation helps to understand how the Seg sees the steering command. It's the rider who is used to think about a 4-wheeler steering and therefore expect to go back and forth in a segment of a circle! :p
But I think it's the only possible way to react for a 2-wheeler. If you turn in place on your Seg and meanwhile start to nod slightly back and forth... at which point would you expect that the Segway stops turning and switch to the 4-wheeler behaviour?

Fantastic video. The next best thing to seeing one in person.
Thanks again for a great intro to the new models.

Very well done, and very informative. Now I have an idea of what all the hubbub was about regarding the steering.

Nice vid! Makes me sad I don't have my machine yet. :(
You touched on a alot of different features, but I wished you could have added an example of the camera POV from an i2, to compair against the gen1 machine footage you showed.
Thanks for posting that! I agree, I think Leansteer will is a win-win.
