Ok, first I'm new to the Segway world. I've always thought they were cool and these new i2 models may just be enough to get me to jump onboard. I've looked through all the material on the new models and I have 2 questions that I was wondering about.

First, the Commuter package as listed here (http://segway.com/personal-transporter/model_i2_Commuter.html) includes:

"Handlebar Bumper protects your Segway PT

Segway Lock Kit allows you to lock your Segway PT to a fixed object

Accessory Bar is perfect for mounting lights, a GPS unit, and other accessories that utilize round handlebar clamps

Comfort Mats alleviate fatigue and provide a smoother ride for longer journeys

Segway Reflectivity enhances your visibility in the dark or in high-traffic locations

Handlebar Bag offers a convenient place to stow your gear

LED Tail Light attaches with versatile clip and alerts traffic to your presence

Parking Stand lets you park anywhere, even with cargo

LeanSteer Frame Tool-less Height Adjust lets you easily change the height of the handlebar for different riders or giving demonstrations to your friends"

However, in the build section of minisite, the included accessories for the Commuter package are listed as:

Handlebar Bumper
Segway Handlebar Bag
Comfort Mats (2)
Parking Stand
Segway Lock Kit
Segway Reflectivity
LED Taillight

The Accessory Bar is not listed in the Build section. Also, is the Tool-less Height Adjust different from the Tool-less Release? I ask because the latter is listed as a separate accessory in the build section as well. Just trying to figure out what's what and which list is accurate.

Secondly, as for availability, dealers here have already stated that accessories will be available in September. Segway's site says "Packages will be available in the fall of 2006. Check with your local dealer for details." Should we take that to mean September as well? Also, since I'm a newb, I wasn't sure but I'm assuming that the packages are just a group of options at a discounted rate? So, users who want the new model sooner could just buy the base and then the accessories later for a slightly higher price.

Thanks for any and all info.

Jeff

Jeff,

The Tool-less Height Adjust knob will allow you to rapidly change the height of your LeanSteer frame without having to carry an allen-wrentch.The Tool-less Release allows you to remove the ENTIRE LeanSteer Frame without an allen-wrentch (for storage, ramping into a vehicle, etc.)

Jump right in, the water is warm!

...The Accessory Bar is not listed in the Build section.
The Accessory Bar is, if I'm not mistaken, part of the commuter kit and is included

Yes, Tool-less Release is the old "quick release" and the Tool-less Height Adjust replaces an allen bolt that you would currently have to use to adjust the height of the shaft. GET THEM BOTH!

Yep, you got that one right although I'm willing to bet that if you order a commuter package from your dealer they will deliver the i2 today and the accessories in a month or so, saving you some money.

Thanks for the answers. I figured you'd probably be able to work out a deal on a package to take delivery of the i2 initially and then the accessories when they are available at the package rate. I may have to give my local dealer (I've seen sholloway's posts here and I think he's my closest) a buzz to check them out in person.

It is my uunderstanding that when you get the Tooless Release, then the lock cannot be used.

Just as an FYI, this was fixed by INC shortly after I first saw it and the accessory bar is NOT included in the Commuter package.

I also noticed another descrepancy that still exists as of today. On this page:

http://www.segway.com/personal-transporter/model_i2_Commuter.html

the last item is the "LeanSteer Frame Tool-less Height Adjust". However, in the 2006 brochure as well as the build section of the mini-site, it says "LeanSteer Frame Tool-less Release" instead. So, I called INC to find out which it was supposed to be. According to them, the above page on their site is wrong and the Commuter package will include the LeanSteer Frame Tool-less Release. Hope this helps folks who may have been confused or who might have expected the Tool-less Height Adjust as part of that package.

Stan, noted your reply above regarding the "one or the other" - toolless quick release versus cable lock. I'm not sure how the lock cable attaches to the i2, but it does seem to at the juncture of the base and the LSB.

Do you know how the lock attaches otherwise with the quick release accessory installed?

Thanks.

I wouldn't be shocked if it changes again. Jeff, you're right, you'll get the package price whenever the accessories come in. I apologize for the disorganization right now involving accessories, hopefully everything will pan out in the next couple of weeks. Thanx again for you patience.

Scott, no problem there. You can only work with what they give you, so dealers are a little hamstringed if INC is out of sync (I did not intend to rhyme there ;) ). I was just getting my ducks in a row as we get closer to delivery.

Do you know how the lock attaches otherwise with the quick release accessory installed?I beta tested for Segway a lock that attached to the Control Shaft tightening bolt on the i167/170/180. I also had a quick release for the same machines. They could not both be used at the same time.

I have not personally seen the lock or the quick release for the i2, but I am trying to put 2 and 2 together from what I have experienced with the previous generation and can see from the pictures in Segway's brochure. It appears to me that the quick release works by replacing the tightening bolt on the Lean Steer Frame. It also appears that the lock works by doing the same thing. So, it does not appear that they can both be installed at the same time.

Further evidence of this is that the lock attaches to the LSF, but the QR would allow it to be detached easily. This would defeat the purpose of the lock, so I doubt they can both be used together. others have used the expression, "Security or Convenience - but not both."
