Boise, ID -The Boise Parks and Recreation Department says that people with disabilities can use a Segway on the Boise Greenbelt. The two-wheeled motorized vehicles were introduced several years ago. The company that makes them and avid owners have petitioned local and state governments around the country to pass ordinances and legislation that would allow the vehicles on sidewalks and in other pedestrian only rights-of-way.
The Boise Parks and Recreation Department decided to permit the use of the vehicles on the Greenbelt if it can be proven the vehicle is for use by a disabled individual. A special display tag is required for anyone using a Segway on the Boise Greenbelt. People who want to use the vehicle on the Boise Greenbelt must contact the Boise parks department to find out the permitting process.
The city had earlier turned down requests for the two-wheeled vehicle to be used on the Greenbelt. Currently only government vehicles are permitted on the Greenbelt.
