Ever since getting my I-180 about a year ago I’ve been gradually installing stuff on it. I now believe I’ve completed customizing and am proud to present my Segway.

As part of the installation I’ve set up a “dashboard” which includes a PDA which works as a GPS and a phone cradle. The phone is used with a Bluetooth speakerphone.

The customization includes (top to bottom): Cellphone adapter and cellphone, PDA adapter and PDA, Handlebar guard, Water bottle holder and bottle, Light, 25 Bag and a Comfort mat.

I would love to get your comments.

Very nice setup.

Those RAM mounts have been used in the marine industries for years and they are worth the $$.

Well done.

Yes the RAM mount is the same which Segway used for the eTrex GPS mounts which screw into the underside of the handle bars. You can also get a swinging drink holder (very handy) and an adapter for just about any GPS, PDA, phone, etc... I also have 2 very bright Light&Motion ARC lights on mine..which I would post a picture of except my Seg is 'away' for over a month for repairs ARRRRGH

I'm impressed, Yossi. Do you have a lot of use for the GPS/PDA?

Unlike many modern US Cities which are very structured Tel Aviv has evolved slowly and without too much urban planning. While I know by heart all car driving routes I sometimes get “lost” on the Segway. I experiment a lot with different gliding routes and quite often find myself on a street I’ve never been before. The GPS gives me an overall sense of location and the capability to “look ahead” and make sure the street is going where I thought it does.

Also the GPS is very handy as a speedometer and for recording gliding routes and speeds.

Looks very cool.
Interested in knowing how you managed to get image of Segway with white background Yossi? Are you a photographer or did you use some programme to cut the image out of the background? Dean

Yossi, when I saw your photo, I instantly pictured ET riding that around.
Easy to phone home too.

Yossi,

Looks good! I'd be tempted to turn the whole handlebar guard upside down and see if that provided a more compact arrangement. How do pedestrians react to your dashboard?

I shot the Segway against a neutral background and from there it’s all Photoshop (cutting, background, fake shadow). I am not a professional photographer but have been shooting as an amateur for years.

I sure wish I could make the Seg fly!

Seriously though, before installing the phone this way I used to keep it in my pockets. When a call came through while gliding I needed to stop, take my hands off, take the phone out, see who it was and answer. Sometimes, when gliding fast on a noisy street I missed calls entirely.

Being in business and trying to use the Segway during business hours I couldn’t afford missing calls hence this arrangement. It may look a bit different but is very useful.

Then again gliding on a Segway is sufficiently “different” so having a phone installed just drowns in the overall geekness.

I actually tried upside down but then the stuff gets in the way of a 12 bag which I sometimes use. Also this way everything is in the immediate field of view so doesn’t require to much attention. I can see that a call is coming through and see who it is from without taking my eyes of the road and can answer without stopping.

Most of the pedestrian reactions are: “Whoa!!!! It even comes with a speakerphone!!!!”
