Attached is the result of a previous thread (http://forums.segwaychat.com/showthread.php?p=114776). The file is a simple Excel spreadsheet (zipped up). Load it up and place an "x" in the gray column down the right. Get your result at the bottom (make sure you select the right Segway model too).

This is just for fun - but I'd really like some ideas on how to make it better (for more fun!): more skills and ways to gain points in the name of achieving an overall proficiency score. If there's any interest, I'll update the sheet and repost it.

And post your rating!

Gareth

105 - looks like I need to get some practice on tricks, handling higher kerbs and riding two machines at once.

Good file, you have put way too many ideas in my head........ now I'll have to try and master all those. :D

116 here! I'm afraid I've lost points for purposefully falling and for not having the training video to watch!

RE: the training video, is it online anywhere?

I gained for the training video but lost for the falls.

If I'm doing a demo I need to know what I can and can't do as a face plant infront of client might not be the best sales technique?!?!?!?

Gee, maybe I better go look again! I scored 124, and while I'm not up to doing any of the tricks listed, most of the regular maneuvers seemed quite ordinary to me. Perhaps I'm doing more with my Seg than I thought I was.

Now I just have to borrow a seg to try the Two Machine glide!

I scored a 148, and I usually do not do tricks... Nor climb 6 inch curbs.

I am reminded of the joke where I say I would never join a club that had such low standards as to allow me to join.

Some of the topics are not fair to us 'E' gliders, but there are not too many of us...

I also do not actually comute daily on the seg, so I guess that is a loss. I choose not to do too much in the way of stunts or tricks, but after the years I have spent on the seg, I am comfortable gliding anywhere at almost any time.

I have the personal experience to have been at a full glide, gotten air, (wound up off the ground with both wheels) for so long, that when it landed and I was still in the air, and since I was no longer depressing the floor detects, and the machine clearly decided to change it's attitude, and started to go into 'E'stand before it started to glide again...

This is a difficult item to describe, but you can believe me that it is a sticky situation...

That alone having been survived, while upright, aught give me the two points I need to bump me up in rating...

All that said, I know better gliders than me. At least I know better stunt gliders than me.

Fun test. Thanks.

Very Cool! I scored a 140 on the I series and 124 on the XT.

I just don't get enough glides on the XT so I lost points.

Need to work on the double glide...that will happen this weekend!

This is a very good idea. I might tweak it a bit and use it as a final exam prior to handing out our Gliding License!

Thanks to a conversation with Macgeek, I realized that I can change the model near the bottom of the questionaire, and when I did, it gave me a score of 150, but declined to give me a verbal value to that score...

Still, very interesting....

Got 106 and am quite happy with it. I really don't feel the need to try wheelies. :-)

Yes, I'm only 120 on my 'i' - probably too conservative <G>. So for all those who wondered, there is at least one conservative bone in my body :) .

Re: Ideas.

The list is very good as is, but since you asked for ideas, here are some to think about.

6. Curbs going up.

On medium to tall curbs, able to "kick up" or help lift up the HT onto the curb with one foot (under it) in balance mode.

11. Tricks. Lift one wheel in the air whilst mounted.

I can lift but not hold. Should there be an additional choice? For now, I'll score it as 0.

19. Number of falls.

How about calling this "unplanned dismounts" and scoring based whether the glider landed on their feet (higher points) or other body part (lower points).

20. Number of near misses.

Not sure what is meant here. Nearly collided with something or nearly fell off?

A Power assist question:

I find I don't need or use power assist mode for negotiating stairs or passing through doorways. Does that make me more proficient? Or less, because my (unneeded) power-assist skills are getting rusty?

Other items you might consider adding:

Stairs/steps:
1. Seldom traverse steps or stairs
2. Routinely traverse a few steps daily
3. Routinely traverse 1 or more flights of stairs daily

1. Able to traverse a staircase in balance (not riding) mode
2. Able to traverse a staircase in balance (riding) mode
3. Able to traverse a staircase with HT completely powered off

Regenerative recharging:
1. Have pushed the HT when off (less than one mile)
2. Have pushed the HT when in P.A. mode to charge it. (less than one mile)
3. Have pushed the HT (off) for over a mile
4. Have pushed the HT in P.A. mode for over a mile

Misc.:
Assembled the HT yourself from the shipping box.
Ever taken apart the HT more so than it was disassembled as found in shipping box.
Ever broken a kickstand and if the kickstand broke, did the fender crack (right over the kickstand - may be an I-167 question only).
Ever replaced/removed the kickstand.
Familiar with use of e-stand on e-series - mount, dismount w/o wobble.
Can use the HT in P.A. mode as a "puller" while rollerblading/skating (note: this made more sense on V10 firmware when P.A. mode had a higher top speed).
Ever "bottomed out" because you misjudged the geometry of an obstacle.
Comfortable giving demo glides to complete strangers.
Count of demo rides given to friends/relatives.
Count of demo rides given to strangers.

I don't have a copy of the Excel app handy right now, so I can't report an official score. If I add up the appropriate numbers in the "I-series" column, I get 77. The spreadsheet viewer I have doesn't let me see the cell formulas, so I have no idea what the official score would be.

I got 126

I don't know anyone else with a segway for the 2-segways tricks.

I don't want to pull the segway on 1 wheel, too much weight on 1 wheel in my opinion.

I just thought of a couple of additional items that may be of interest to people in the proficiency range...

Ever towed a trailer? Weight and configuration...
This can be more difficult than it seems, as any pivot turn will result in ankle issues or a trailer toung stopping one wheel...

How about towed something with your hand? I have towed rolling luggage in an airport. I have towed a golf cart (Little two wheel kind). I have towed a hand truck with lots of weight.

I have even towed another seg. I also pushed another seg.

A new and related issue. I have a rotary mower. The kind with no motor, just gearing attached to one wheel...

I have used a couple different methods to push this mower with my seg. Maneuvering with that thing on the ground in front of the seg is a difficult trick. I have the ability but that is a long way from proficiency...

Some great comments and suggestions. Thanks guys! Will update shortly. A website version might be better with pics/vids demoing the manoeuvres.

BTW, I get 102. [:)]

I got a 97.

Climbing curbs in balance mode? Sounds scary.

Luckily every sidewalk where I live has wheelchair ramps at the corners. Gliding into a curb sounds like a faceplant recipe.

I have towed a 65 Inch Sony big screen, as well as a couple of sofa sets between apartments in INdianapolis! Towed other segways behind me, as well as luggage!
