Not to mention, if an XT with li ion gets 10-12 mile range, how is a nimh machine going to get 8-10 mile range?

I saw the same thing on ebay and sent the guy a comment/question...all he said was yes it's brand new, etc. How is he allowed to do this "rip off" stuff? I though INC didn't allow dealers to sell on ebay type sites, especially this stuff.

I think that's a little harsh as I don't see much of a problem. The ad clearly states what it is.

"a brand new i167 with NiMH batteries that has been converted to an XT using new factory parts, you can upgrade to lithium-ion batteries later on if you need them."

I don't know what the difference between XT code and HT code is, so I can't comment there, but it does seem that it is at least li-ion capable.

Actually, I think it is a creative way to add value to the older machine. If the old stock won't move then give it a face lift. Also consider that they laid out cash for that machine quite some time ago and the longer it sits in stock the more it costs because it ties up cash. Would it matter if they banged out custom fenders, put different big off-road tires on it, called it an AT and applied All-Terrain stickers to it? The advantage of using stock parts is that they are easier to replace.

An XT isn't an XT unless it has Saphions. Unless the I-167 is wearing Saphions, it hasn't been fully converted to an XT. An unfamiliar buyer would be unaware of this.

Let the buyer beware!

Using an "converted to" XT with NiMH would work on flat surfaces, but if you actually took it off-road, you would experience many flat-faces, stick-shakes, safety shutdowns and obviously limited range.

Oh wait, aren't there millions of SUVs and Jeeps on the road that have never been splashed with mud because the drivers haven't taken their "off-road" vehicles off of the road?

Maybe SNM has something there!

Never mind!

Buy Now Price.........$4495.00
Add Li-lon...............$1700.00
Total $................$6195.00

and you have a i167 without the XT software (which is different) for much more money.

Good buy.. No gimmicks?

I agree that it isn't misleading inside the Segway Chat community given the description, BUT, I would think the general Ebay community wouldn't have a chance at knowing the difference. Maybe he's planning on explaining it COMPLETELY in email during/after the auction?

Yes, to a segwaychat member, or someone who KNOWS the workings of a segway, it is not a 'scam' BUT to the general popuation this is unforgivable!

Segway NM and I have butted heads before on the way they post ebay Advertisments, But this is absolutly a SCAM. period.

Skydiver, Shaun has done OK by you, and that is fine,. but I would drather have a dealer know that people are watching them, and protecting something more valuble then there profit margin,

and thats the Segway community!

Creative marketing is great.
This ad stinks.

Why should I worry about the "fine print' in the advertisment.
Someone is being setup for a disapointment I'm afraid.

SkyDiver,
Don't feel you're the only enemy Shawn has. It seems he's made several within the dealer community as well. The last time we spoke the only words that came from him contained 4 letters . So you you're are not the only one that enjoys the title of his mortal enemy.

I own a QX56 if a dealer put a armada on the infinity lot with a change of emblems... that the last time I would trust that dealer... they have NM Seg merchandise that wont move.... what do you do?.. sell them off at a loss! get rid of them and write off the loss! dont re-make them.... will the manufacture warranty them? probably not! they are altered! INC should pull this dealers licence then they can sell what ever they like on e-bay. The Nerve of them calling them a XT and then explaining in the print that they are not XT... hell they dont even have XT batteries.. and XT do not have a yellow key...! E-Bay has a buyer beware reputation... NM Seg has a reputation of Buyer Beware!

The ad clearly states what it is. I have looked at it hard after all the negative comments by people. Some claim to have "butt" heads with us that we or I have never butted heads with, but regardless of the hype.

The ad does use the XT as a model, as Segway LLC did in there first advertising of the Titanium XT. They use pictures of the NiMH i167 with the exact accessories that we have used.

We clearly state that it is an i167 converted to an XT by using factory parts. We do not state that the software has been upgraded for stability as the "True XT" has. Meaning that it has not been recalibrated to adjust for the tire size. Which means it goes faster than 12.5 miles per hour, about 16 mph to be closer.

The units are Brand New and have 14.0 software. Lithium batteries can be added if needed for a heavy price as someone pointed out. We dont charge that much to add them but that is a price that some charge.

There really is no need for the upgrade in software unless you are truly worried about your own mobility issues on the segway. We ride them all over with the NiMH batteris and they work just fine, never shut down, never through a wrench, or gave any issues.

The units are great being used under normal conditions, such as a demo unit, or for the old guy that really dont want to climb the hill, but likes the big tires and soft ride of the XT. The weekend warrior that wants to tear up the hills at the park near by or his back yard this is perfect.

These units are great for those who fly and want to play somewhere after a meeting or a convention. Speaking of conventions, they are great for conventions, car shows, small tours less that 8 miles, etc.

People have been modifiying the Segways long before us, and we are thankful for them. Some have been dealers and some still are, they have used all kinds of tires and rims without any software upgrade.

We are honest people working for a honest "earned" dollar. We have 100% feedback on our ebay stores, and we take great care in making sure everyone who calls, knows exactly what they are buying. Some people like to hate, thats just the way it is. We can not help those who continue to "watch" and complain or start negative threads, claiming we are a scam.

Our customers call back, they enjoy our business and we enjoy passing on our ideas and good deals. What ever happen to the good deals when it comes to a Segway Dealer anyway? I think a dealer that is afraid to work some numbers with a customer or "prospect" should be selling gas.

Segway New Mexico takes great pride in using the Segway HT in a positive manner. We promote good Segway use and knowledge when ever possible and anyone who has called us or stopped by, knows that. We are hardly a scam, or are trying to "missleed" anyone at all.

We sell Segway HT's for less and that makes some people mad, those that hold the "grudge" most the time. We are too busy to hold such negative energy for anyone or anything, especially another Segway Dealer.

We will try and clear the ad up some with regards to XT, although I have not had "one" person be confused, we will state it very clear for those who "may" be confused. We will do this but it will not stop the negative people that look for rocks to through at us or others.

I forgot to mention, People call and have the choice of purchasing the New XT if they want it for a great price also. Most have been choosing that price over the "converted i167" since it has the lithium batteries already installed.

Shawn,

As an outsider, one who has never had any dealings with you (nor butted heads) but who is a Segway Dealer, I read your ad with some concern.

After the various posts today I decided to put the ad to the "taste" test. I asked my employees to look at the ad and b) asked people I know who have ridden Segways and know the product to take a look at it.

UNANIMOUSLY they agreed that even they would have been taken in by it. Yes, some caught the NiMH reference but assumed it was a new model meant to cater to the cost conscious.

ALL felt that the ad was misleading, ALL felt that the ad was meant to get rid of old stock by making it look like a new model, and ALL felt that it was deceitful.

I'm not surprised by the vehement outpouring....a simple solution, don't equate it to an XT and use the XT descriptors. Make it clear that this is an XT "look alike", a CONVERTED i series, etc.

Just friendly advice.

Hi everyone, I'd just like to say that some of the posts in this thread are totally out of line. Lets keep the personal attacks out of Segway chat.

IT is here for everyone to see, and it unbecoming of this community. If you want to discuss something privately, do it privately, but do not make your qualms with one person or another public. It is totally inappropriate.

I am going to lock this thread to prevent any escalation of the same.
