This thread is an attempt to put all the SegwayfesT 2006 information links in a small area, as opposed to spread out all over the larger SegwayfesT October 13 to 15 2006 (http://forums.segwaychat.com/showthread.php?t=11770) thread.

Main information source as of 4/21/06:
http://www.segamerica.org/
Room rate info, preliminary fesT schedule, event cost schedule, DRAFT event teaser.

Link to the Coast Hotel at Long Beach:
http://www.coasthotels.com/home/sites/longbeach/
Toll free number to the Coast Hotel reservations:
(800) 716-6199
Local phone number to the Coast Hotel in Long Beach:
(562) 435-7676
Note, this may be a toll call, but you won't be going through the chain's 800 switchboard, it's direct to Long Beach.

Remember, you can book a room at the Coast Hotel for two days before and after SegwayfesT 2006 at the same rate, if the rooms aren't already booked. As of mid-April, the two days following were mostly open, but the two days previous were mostly closed. Contact the hotel for up-to-date information.

SegwayFest 2006 - Long Beach California,
October 13, 14, and 15 2006

The Coast Hotel

Our host hotel (where the action will be) is The Coast Hotel.700 Queensway Drive, Long Beach, CA, 90802, Phone. (562) 435-7676, Fax. (562) 437-0866
Reservations 1-800-716-6199
Their web site is http://www.coasthotels.com/home/sites/longbeach/ (http://www.coasthotels.com/home/sites/longbeach/)

We have two types of rooms in the block; Garden View rooms are $124 and Harbor View rooms are $144, mention SegwayFest to get our special discounted room rates. Both types of rooms are available with either a King sized bed or two Queen sized beds.

Please book your rooms early. Our special rates are very limited. Currently, each room night booked will receive one free breakfast buffet voucher worth $12. Thus two nights at the Coast, regardless of how many are sleeping in the room will receive two vouchers.

Very seriously, we expect our room block to be totally sold out. We have to guarantee to pay for a certain number of rooms whether or not they are used. I believe that we erred on booking too few rooms as opposed to booking to many rooms.

Spouse’s Club

Bringing your Segway Along for the Glide

Remember Segways with the Lithium Ion batteries CANNOT travel on commercial aircraft. Segways with the original NiMH can. Do not try to sneak Lithium Ion Batteries in your luggage, or on board with your Segway, or ship it by air. That is a felony. Lithium ion batteries can only be shipped via ground transportation attached to your Segway. If the batteries are shipped unattached they are treated as hazardous materials and must be shipped via ground by an authorized HazMat shipper. We understand that by Fest time many dealers will be HazMat certified to ship unattached batteries. Check with your local dealer.

More information will be sent to registrants as to safe shipping and any arrangements we might have with DHL or BAX as well as specifics as to where to ship your Seg.

Rentals will be available. All three local dealers will be providing rentals. We should have the details soon.

See you in Long Beach for the Fest.

Our Paypal site will be up and running shortly. Checks can be made payable to SegAmerica, Inc and mailed c/o Fred Kaplan, 15250 Ventura Blvd #610, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403.

How much is it for a guest of a Fest attendee to come to just the dinner on the Queen Mary?

The cost for a guest is $75. The guest is also invited to the welcoming reception on Friday evening.

Airport Shuttle Links
RC Mike adds - might want to start a thread for airport/time of arrival/departure groups

Did RC Mike or anyone else already start a thread?

My plane will arive at LAX on Wednesday october 11th, around 15:15 hours, is there anyone else ariving around the same time? Perhaps we can take a shuttle together and split the cost.

fredkap

Super Shuttle charges $39 for a shared van from LAX to the Coast Hotel per person. Florin will probably be going through customs and should emerge at about 4:30 PM curbside at the Bradley International Terminal. If someone is renting a car than it would make sense, it also would make sense to bunch the returns to LAX. The biggest problem with arrivals is that if either person's flight is delayed by say an hour, the other person doesn't know what to do. Also arrivals are coming into seven terminals which aren't that far apart but it makes it more difficult to meet up with someone arriving on a different flight that is coming into a different terminal.

Keep me posted, I want to make the process as painless as possible for those coming on flights that take more than ten hours...gee does that mean that I'm discriminating against Americans?

Thanks Fred,

Jonathan, If you arive around the same time, I don't mind to travel together. I'm sure we can work something out. As long as you don't mind to travel together with a zombie :D (I can't sleep on a plane)

Florin (and all you international travelers)...

Because of the headache of going through LAX and then through LA to get to the hotel, I'm looking at going through customs in Chicago, Dallas, or even Wash Dulles. All three have great connecting flights to Long Beach (Wash Dulles has a direct Jet Blue!) and you might also want to consider this.

If you don't plan to RON in your connecting city you can check your bags through to LB when you start your flight.

While this might add an hour or two (or three or four!) to my travel time it also gives me a lot more options on getting there AND, truth be told, I'd likely end up sitting in LA traffic anyway.

Hi Steven,

I already booked my flight, so no chance to change it anymore.

I also don't really see the difference, a few hours extra time on airports and planes or spending that same time on LAX and in a shuttle bus. In the end you will still be wasting that time

Florin,

It does matter ... in an airport I can logon and browse, sit in the lounge and drink (coffee, soda, liquor...my choice). In traffic I can only contemplate killing the idiot driver (who would be better off on a Segway) next to us!

Steven,

Your absolutly right, something to remember for my next trip, after SegwayFest2006.

fredkap
06-02-2006, 11:58 AM
I'm not trying to defend LAX but I have flown enough international flights to have had flights delayed by 12 hours because they needed to replace an engine or arriving at an airport at 4 AM because of a delay and not being able to change any money at that hour and yet the bathroom stalls required the equivalent of a quarter to use but we didn't have the local currency.

If Steven books two separate tickets, one to DC and a separate ticket from DC's Dulles to Long Beach and his flight to DC is late, will Jet Blue put him on the next flight and bump another passenger if that flight is full or is he totally at the mercy of Jet Blue. If he books his trip entirely with American Airlines and he misses a connection, they will put him on whatever they have to get him there as quick as possible. Going through customs in Washington or Chicago is not necessarily any easier than LAX. My point is that when everything goes right your choice isn't that important. How the problems are handled is important.

I'm coming in early but not that early...however, if you want to strike a deal, I'll authorize you to pick up a case or two of wine from my cellar in Helena (Napa Valley) and give you a bottle of fine wine for your trouble!

With 5K+ bottles I have one or two to spare :-)

If interested drop me a private message!

Private message, Phoo-ie. I want the tour! How far is it to Napa Valley from Long Beach?

RC Mike
06-13-2006, 03:32 PM
7+ hours by car. But JetBlue has a nice flight out of Long Beach 45 minutes to Oakland, then about 45 minutes by car to Napa.

Mike

Wow, Helena is a Lot farther north than Napa. Like 200 miles farther.

Mike

Now I feel really stupid. You must be talking about St. Helena, not Helena, which is north west from Redding. St. Helena is only like 20 miles from Napa.
