The Short North section of Columbus will be a lot of fun to glide and hang out with all of my buddies on Segways!

Wait until you see this showroom, and all the tee shirts and other goodies that they have for sale. Some great stuff.

Oh yeah there are a few Segways there too!

Jared,
Count us in. It sounds like a good time. Will there be a place close by to park and stay in my motorhome? I'm self contained so I won't need any hookups. But I might need electric to charge the segs overnight.

Though this is the Columbus store's opening party, and that is one the business side. This event is more about trying to start an Ohio Segway Enthusiasts Group, so it is really more on the events side.

Jared wanted to host a National fesT this year, but his location was not choosen. So he did a good thing and decided to host a small regional event. I wish more dealers/SEGs would do that. And I know lots of local gliders would appreciate it as well.

This will be a great way to get folks together who love the Segway for a weekend of fun and gliding!

JaredHT

Again, thanks for the kind words Will.

I can't wait to see how many people will attend. I'm finalizing the details of a group dinner for us, and it's looking like we'll have a GREAT turnout.

Hope to see everyone soon!

Hi Jared,

Best of luck to you with your new dealership. Wish I could be there BUT the distance is a bit tooooo long. Let's see how many batteries would I need to get from Manila, Philippines to Ohio assuming the Seg can float!

Regards and best wishes from sunny and hot Manila

Now that would get you guys there.

And with Jared's connections with the aviators - it could actually happen one day! - After all Ohio is where the Wright Brothers were from, if I remember my history correctly!

No matter how folks get to Columbus, Jared will show us the town in style!

And this will be the largest group of gliders at any one time in Columbus, so the locals will be a talkin about all that glidin and stylin!

JaredHT
04-29-2006, 01:50 PM
Your absolutely right. I think a group like this will have a HUGE impact on this city. People are already welcoming us here, and I hear daily about the trouble with auto traffic downtown.

This will be a great event, a chance to show off the new store, and hopefully the stepping stone to making Columbus a Segway-City!

Jared,
Yep "The Deuce" In Tallmadge. The parking lot sounds great. We are looking forward to it. Put some more gadgets on the motorhome since you saw it. This summer we will be "personalizing" the segs. Took mine to the local drag strip last night. Spent more time answering questions than riding. It was fun. If Linda's was working we could have raced them. It would be neet to see what they would do in a quarter mile. <smile> Not sure how to do a burnout though.

The tread pattern on my enhance traction tires has almost completely worn away in about five months. I ride hard but I know I ride that hard! I have one spare wheel and enhanced traction tire and need another like it to make a pair. Does anyone have a wheel and tire or just a tire like the one in the attached PDF file? I’m posting here because I want to solve this problem before I leave the Segway of Ohio Kick-off event.

JaredHT
05-06-2006, 12:04 PM
Here's more details about the discussion that will be led by Robert Jinkins on Sat. 13th.

Bob will discuss and demonstrate (as available space permits)
fundamentals for efficient gliding. This isn’t about tricks or riding
on the ragged edge; it’s about gliding fluidly in solid control even
when the road gets bumpy. Good technique starts with the feet and
precise but fluid balance is a prime objective. We know to “lean into
turns” but there’s more to it. And is handlebar height just a
preference or are there objective guidelines for setting the height?

Bob owns an i180 and XT. He’s new to the Segway world and brings a
unique background to the sport. He learns by “feeling” alone, has
insightful observations, quickly admits mistakes, and is curious and
eager to learn.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone and gliding in Columbus. It looked like such a fun town to be out in (especially the neighborhood where the newest Ohio Segway dealership is located!)

For the SEG America presentation, I will be brining folks up to speed on where SA is today, and where it is going in the next year. And how important the local groups are to everyone in the gliding world.

See you all on Friday night (we plan on getting in around 9pm to the hotel) Saturday and Sunday will be a great time!

We have done the rain glide thing! How could anyone forget that Saturday night in Manchester last July - though some did not go out into the wet weather, but were there to welcome everyone back to the hotel!

It will be a great trip - the Million Seg Glide - maybe it should be called the Million Dollar Seg Glide. Now how many Segways would it take to spend One Million Dollars? That would only be about 200 Segways and their owners.

OK Jared - only 200 Segway owners, so if you could invite - just the folks you have sold HT's to off of SegwayChat - you should surpass that number quite easily!

Do we think any of Jared's celebrity Segway Owners will stop by? I met one of them while I was out there - and I think they are coming to the event!

JaredHT
05-10-2006, 11:26 AM
I spent the morning going through the V1 & Prototype parts to display at the event! I love being able to lay out parts and see how the machine evolved!

I've pulled a lot of fun things to show (too much to show everything) and I might....just might....tap into my private stash of showparts at home :D

Anyone who went out to dinner the night prior to the V1 sale knows it's a miracle any of these historic Segway parts survived my driving! LOL

V1 Parts - heck lets see the rap sheet from Jared's driving the night before the V1 Sale.... Oh that is NO doubt classified! Only the Bedford Police have access to that info.

There weren't any rooms left in the "block" Jared ordered, but at least we'll be in the same hotel. Linda and I will be ariving Sat. morning sometime. We figured it would be more fun to stay with the "group". I don't post very often on here but I get on to read the posts a couple times a week or more. We are looking forward to meeting all of you. Only the glider will be upgraded on this trip! - You will not know them afterwards - they will be so cool now that they have done the Columbus thing!

I think Jared is doing machine thingys - not sure - Maybe I was dreaming too - but I do believe he said he was.

The trek out was good - sunny until we were midway into Ohio, then got here and it was just dark and moist.

Took a midnight glide from the hotel to the Segway of Ohio dealership about a mile up the street - if that, saw all the young party goers - and got told I was lazy, then I went over and asked them what had they done today, where had they been, and why the heck were they smoking out side! - Even got a shout out by some crazy guy going by in a Ford Escape - think it could have been the Man of the weekend - our boy Jared!

Gray morning, but we will have a good time, no matter the weather!

Anyone who decided they would not come because of the weather - you get a demerit and no star on your report card!

Well

What gathering of gliders does not have fun when they get together, and Jared has made this event an extra special one for all who attended. Special thanks to everyone here in Columbus for making this day so great.

And special thanks to the guy from Brooklyn too - You know who you are!

So what happened today - you ask... Well what did not.

We all gathered - after getting breakfast, in the hotel meeting room. Everyone introduced themselves, and their backround with the Segway - some of our attendees - had never glided with another segway owner before - can you believe that?

A Pizza and upgrade glide to the new Segway of Ohio Store here in Columbus - what a buzz - folks everywhere with segs - HT's XT's but no p's (we miss them) then after that we all broke up and glided back to the Crowne Plaza - and started the presentations.

I had the laptop and projector so we were cruzing the local SEG's sites, checking out the pictures and of course over here at Segway Chat - looking up posts, running videos of Laura Knight and Jon as well as the Centuar video from the Segway Site - some had never seen the that. Then we played the G4 video from last years fesT DC too.

I did a presentation on SEG America and the importance of local SEG's to everyone, Bob Jinkens did a presentation on the proper gliding positions and weight distribution - he is a Pro Ski Instructor and knows how important it is to put your body in the right place to get down the hill the best way, and used that to demonstrate it on a Segway - Oh Yes he had two lovely ladies as his assistants - Needless to say - it was a great show.

Jared talked V-1 parts, and we all just had a great time sharing. Then Dinner at a local pub - where awards and door prizes were given out - Jared got the Frog - for kissing so many! HI CHRIS!

Then afterwards as any event would have - was the night glide - and in true Jared style - Tricks stunts and general X Segging fun!

The Party is still going on on trails here in town - I returned home as I was down to my last bar - dam the old batteries!

Here is a shot of our host - on the new SegSeat!

What a fun weekend, Segways, Friends, Food and More, who cared if the weather was dreary - we had a lot of fun.

Now I understand the need for those LiOn batteries - everyone else went out all night long for a glide Saturday, all through out Columbus, the parks, trails, streets and of course were led by the new Segway of Ohio X Glide Team - of Hooch and Jared - I understand tricks and spins only got better after I left them.

Though they were all up early for breakfast - though I think some of them did not go to bed! I had heard many did not Friday night, and that included Jared!

Here is what I think was the best part of the event - in no particular order.

The Segway of Ohio Cookies - they were great - and looked cool - SofO logo on them in icing.

Jamie and the upgrades - what a great thing this is to have a Segway Inc. Employee stop by to give folks free upgrades (I am sure SofO paid for it)

The fact that 3 glider who live within 5 miles of each other, and had no one to glide with met each other... Me thinks that there will be a new Pittsburgh PA SEG in the making here!

Meeting Folks from all over who love Segways.

Ski Instructor Bob's proper balance gliding demonstration with the ladies! - what a hoot!

Gliding into the wrong dinning room for dinner - talk about heads turning and everyone going dead quiet!

Hearing all of MacGeek's stories

The new Segway of Ohio Shop, with all that it has for sale!

I could go on, but if you missed it, you missed a lot! Jared may be planning a mid-August get together too, and if he does, get on your Segway and be there!

Well, I'm finally taking the time to post my thoughts on the Columbus get together.

My wife (Pat) and I had a great time, even though we elected to eat at the Happy Greek instead of having dinner with the group (hey, what can I say - she likes Greek food ;) ).

We enjoyed the rides, expecially the part about going through the hotel's lobby and up the elevators on the Segs. We're both pretty new on Segs (Pat had only had hers for a week, and had only been on mine once before we got her's - no, it's not because I'm mean! She broke her left arm at work, and couldn't glide).

In case you guys that weren't there are wondering about macgeek's "OMG Harvey" statement in a previous post, allow me to explain that I waylaid him good at the meeting. I've been friends with one of his sisters (he has 4) for a really long time, and the last time I remember seeing him was at her wedding (something like 23 years ago!). I'd figured out it was him, and surprised the heck out of him - he never saw it coming! :D .

I want to give a big shout out to Jared and crew for a womderful, intimate get together. The shop has a good feeling and plenty to see. There was plenty of info floating around no matter who you were talking to. The INC guy was super and got everyone upgraded to their "Elvis". I’m back from my travels now and want to thank everyone at the Columbus Event. It was great fun meeting friends and getting out with some terrific gliders. Jared epitomizes the Segway spirit! We need more dealers like Jared to get the world gliding. Jen and Hooch are terrific. Seg America is lucky to have a president and ambassador with WWH’s vision and drive. Jonathan is pushing Segway HT technology and usability with unique ideas and he’s probably kissed a frog or two. I’ll remember everyone there and I’ll stop listing names now, except maybe a tat a tat, tat for Chris.
