I know this has been discussed before but due to a local press request I'm going at it again....
We have been asked by one of the local rags to provide them with ten (10) common (regular) Segway uses / tasks as identified by private individuals. This is to be part of a piece on the advantages of an eco-friendly device in today's society.
Whilst I could generate a list on my own, I'd rather be much more realistic and ask that we, the daily users of the Segway, each identify five uses for our Segways and list them IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE (1 being most important / common). I will take each response, give it a value (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5) and then pass this totally unscientific but interesting poll to the reporters.
Of course, I will also post the results here.
Thanks for all who help (hopefully all)....

#1 My number one use for my Segway HT p133 is commuting to and from work. It's my car/motorcyle and I use it accordingly.
#2 Driving downtown to get some work done on my powerbook at Starbucks or other coffeehouses.
#3 Driving across town or campus to get to my next meeting.
#4 Driving across town or campus to get to my research lab.
#5 Driving downtown to drop off videos at Blockbuster.

Well fun is where it starts, and getting places and things done, is what it accomplishes!
Since it just cost me sixty bucks to fill up my van with gas, I will start using my Segway more for around town trips.
But here is what I have been doing.
1. Going to the Post office. I do this daily and have since I got my Segway.
2. Going to the supermarket. I do this more on weekends, but will do more of it.
3. Going to the farmer's market weekly. With several markets around my area, I should do this more to support the small farmers.
4. Going to visit friends and neighbors. I do this weekly, though then everyone knows where I am, and who I am visiting.
5. I use it when I take my car in for service, then I can glide home, or glide and Metro home, depending on the service shop. I do this about once a quarter.
6. Going downtown for work projects and using the DC METRO system (during non-rush hours) - Need to do more of this, as it saves on parking, tickets, fuel and my nerves in dealing with city traffic.
7. Going out for Group Glides with my DCSEG friends - Surely need to do MORE of this, because it is a lot of fun.
8. Taking my Segways with us on car trips, so that we can glide no matter where we are. - but with fewer car trips, this may slow down a bit.
9. Taking my Segway with me to Car Club racing events, so I can get around the event more easily. I do this, but often I loose my Segway to one of the track officials, who find it more fun than the ATV's they drive normally.
10. Taking my Segway on it's first airplane trip to Long Beach California in October for SegwayfesT. Already I don't travel lightly, so now a Segway too.... SkyCAP!

1. 2nd car kind of stuff... I have an investment property 2 miles from home. I am active in town politics and the town hall is 1.5 miles from home. Errands like the bank, and the grocery store...
2. Dad's taxi. My sister-in-law / kid's godmother is about 2.5 miles from my home and usually a kid or two is there. My son's kindergarten is about 2 miles from my home. His Soccer team (I am one of the coaches) plays about 3 miles from home, and both my children (6 and 3) wear helmets and ride on the seg with me...
3. Politicking... If I am involved with a cause, and a potential political candidate wants a sign carried (I usually do not do this, but when I show up to say hello to those who are carrying signs, local press loves it) I have done my own campaigning with it, I visit properties around town as a function of being on the Zoning board and the Master Plan committee...
4. Fun, Fun, Fun. I often ride for the fun of it or make up errands to give me the excuse to ride...
5. Heart health... I will steal and modify a saying that I used to have on a wall in my boat... I believe that time spent gliding is not deducted from your lifespan...
Daily - to work and back
To the library
To the bank
To the store (when I have smaller amounts to bring home)
To the post office
To my physical trainer
Just goofing off around the neighborhood
Gee, that's more than 5. :)

Did I post a no-no ?
Did I post a no-no ?
No, I meant to make a joke, which had nothing to do with your post... I was surprised no one had mentioned that the Segway is a great tool for "breaking the ice" which was my "politically correct" way of saying: meeting chicks! LOL

After a totally unscientific study, one that has little if any merit but will be used for a newspaper article.....the results have been tabulated and we have the top six (there was a tie for 5th place) most common uses for the Segway.
Drum roll please......
In first place, with an over all score of 25 is..... Run Errands
Running a close second (but second none the less) is... Shopping (Grocery and Other) with a score of 21
At third, quite surprisingly, is Commute to Work with a score of 20
Fresh Air, Fun, Meditation, Sun come in with 15 points...and I do heartilyconcur with the Sun and Meditation part
Political activisim is alive and well as Political / Protest campaigns scored a 7 as did my favorite, Travel to coffee shops both tied for fifth place
I did take some liberties and "join" similar categories (similar in my mind, that is) but overall we had 41 listed which, after joining, became 26.
Again, totally unscientific but good fodder for the press!
