Only got 2kms last night on full charge and segway was dead and could not be restarted. By switching battery packs one at a time between 2 machines we found that 1 lion battery pack is dead on either machine.

Just rang the dealer in Vegas that I purchased from in August 05 and was told that they have now had 9 (yes that's 9) packs do the same thing and unfortunately Segway will not stand behind them. Becomes a COSTLY consumable after only 7 months and only 100 odd cycles of charging.

Does anybody know whether or not they can be repacked to get rid of the faulty cell?

Please, please, please.

Longtime SC member- W9GFO- was successfull in replacing Nimh cells in the standard batteries a while back. Perhaps the process is the same with Lions?
I believe he used good cells from bad batteries. He wrote some good threads about the process.

Ian,
I think you may want to talk to Segway directly about the battery issue before you make a judgement call. As for replacing cells.........pregnant pause......................another one..........................
not in a million years. You could be playing with fire....and lots of it.....quite literally.

The lithium saphion batteries are far safer than older lithium technology. I don't think I'd bet the farm on them being impervious to thermal event, and yes, I've seen the video where they shot them with a high powered rifle. Just my opinion, but I suspect that's treading in very dangerous territory.

Ian,

I concur with Wayne (I seem to do that alot!).

Although we have had some battery failures, INC has stood behind each and every replacement that wasn't caused by user misuse.

Please call INC directly, or better yet, go through your local dealer, and I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help. I'll give INC a call directly as I already spoke to the original dealer.

Always interesting to see the different terms, and how they are used. Too bad we can't hear the accent to go with it!

I can see it now, in that little place in Bedford, a box arrives, international freight, and on the side in big RED letters it says "SHAGGED LION!"

Now that might make a few folks stand up and take notice!

Maybe soon, we will get to see and glide with more gliders from other parts of the world and hear more interesting terms!

Reminds me of the time I had a blowout with a US Royal tire in SLC as I was returning to IL from the ROP vis SF.
They wouldn't adjust the tire because they said it had been run flat.
I was in no mood to argue so I picked up the tire and dropped in on his desk and walked out telling him to 'adjust this'.
Every set I off wheels I have now have Michelins, 12 in all.
