In working with the travel providers for fesT I have a question for folks who travel with their machines.

How do you do it?

Glide up and have it checked as baggage? - does it come back in one piece?

Check it boxed up?

How much have you paid to carry it as extra luggage? And do they charge you if you glide up and check it at the gate?

I know that mobility challenged folks may have a different response, but I would like to hear what folks have experienced.

Hi Will,

I just completed a dometic/transatlantic trip with my Seg. i used the Seg airline carrying case. I transported the p133, and it weight in at 100lbs. If you are taking and I model you will need the two airline carrying cases. AA charged me $100. extra weight. The ariline case is durable and keeps the Seg from getting beat up by the airline gorillas.

I've checked mine like overweight baggage.
Used the Segway like a trolly to haul my bags to the check in counter.
I did bubble wrap the shaft and handlebar, removed the front bumper piece and put some suitcase straps around the base/mat to provide a lift handle.
Came thru with a couple small scrapes.

I use my "gimp" status to gate check....one of the few bright sides !

I've used the Segay Airline Case and checked it through. Because the i series handlebar won't fit in the current Airline case, I put it in my other checked luggage as they may not (depending on the gate agent) let you carry it on the plane (it can be used as a weapon).

We've shipped this way three (3) times, all with no problems.

How much did the airlines charge you for the extra over weight luggage?

And when you glide up to the gate. Do the Airlines then charge you for stowing it?

It's been free (once), $100 (thrice), $150 (twice).

I've found a lot depends on my other bag, how I approach the check-in counter (wheeling the case or having it on a trolley), and the general demeanor of the ticket agent.

We flew Southwest from Houston to Birmingham at no extra cost. My wife glided to the door of the plane and was taken there and when we arrived in Birmingham it was brought back to the same spot. I was very surprised and elated. Don't know about other airlines yet.

I assume your wife was using the HT as a mobility device. If so all US airlines will Gate Check a Seg.
If you have not visited www.DRAFT.cc you should take a look around the site.
