On Thursday I went to the Massachusetts state house-- I was there on other buisness-- but I brought a copy of a bill that was proposed that would require all segways/their owners to do the following and more:
-- Requirement of a Driver's License/Permit
-- Requirement that they ONLY be used on the streets
-- Requirement of brake and turning signals
-- Requirement that they stay below 20mph (easy)
-- Requirement of helmets (np)
THere were other stipulatons, but they were mostly absurd. I lobbied my congresswoman and state senator and they assured me that it would not be passed this year.
Thanks

What bill was that? Can you give us the number so that we can lobby our local legislative representatives?

Senate 1863
House 2184 is more in sync with other state's EPAMD laws.

Good work! I'll see what I can do to help out from Worcester - I was quite surprised to find out that we still don't have EPAMD legislation in MA, but this is definitely not the direction I was hoping for when they did get around to it. For those of you more involved in this than us Florida transplants, what's been the sentiment up here regarding legislation/use? Are we looking at a NY-style problem, or is it just the usual mass confusion of our well-meaning but poorly-written legislators?

Let me know if there is anything that we, Segway of Northern New England, can do to help! I am out of state but would love to help out!

The image of 100 Segway owners riding up to the State House through the Boston Common just flashed in front of my eyes. :)

As I remember... there was a day like 4 or 5 years ago when a few people came with segs, and got reps and senators on-- to try segs... THere are a whole bunch of cool pictures... I have no idea where they are, and any more details....
Again, this was a long time ago, so things may be very different. I doubt these bills will be reconsitered this year, so all of this may go away. There will still be no legislation, and we can do whatever we want...
Thanks
