Is there a seal on the base of the Segway HT , which is easily visible when it's broken, so you can see if base was opened by somebody and not by authorized person?
Who is authorized? Only service dept. in Segway LLC?

Thanks

I've opened my power base on a number of occasions and did not notice any seal.

I have an older I-167 (red mode button handlebar), long out of warranty. Has anyone opened up a newer model?

I would only hesitate to open the power base if my HT was still under warranty and such a seal existed.

On the other hand, I would justify breaking such a seal under warranty if I were concerned that the power base was exposed to excessive moisture and I wanted to dry it out before too much corrosion or oxidation occurred.

I had a power base with water inside, still under warrenty.
I took off the control shaft base and gearboxes for shipment(not the cover), I voided the guarantee.

The power base is sealed through torque on the bolts, not a mechanical seal ( I assume you're thinking of a gasket sort of seal)
Just a suggestion...DON'T. You WILL void your warranty if you still have one, there is nothing inside that you can fix, lots you can
damage, and you shouldn't even go near it with a screwdriver unless the platform and you are static protected.

I'm a Segway trained service technician and even we are not permitted to crack the power base open. The only time I've ever seen the insides was at the factory.

The power base cover is sealed with an "O" ring that is molded onto the bottom of the cover. You should never open this cover, the "O" ring can be damaged just by opening after it has been on for a while.

By now my machine is clearly out of warranty, both by time and all the mods I have added, and as was said in that famous western...

Warranty? WARRANTY? We don't need no stinkin' warranty!

As a more or less direct answer, I have not had or seen a seal on my base, (Except the o-ring under the CS base) but after gliding in tall grass on damp days, I have had a newt once, and slugs twice in the underbelly of my seg...
