I've got the polo bug!
Anyone want to get together before segfest and whack a ball around?
If we can meet a few times before the fest in October, I'm sure we can give the bay area team a run for their money!
I've got my mallet, my helmet and a team name! Just need some more team mates!
Any takers?

David, California is the Home of Segway polo!
I am sure the gang from Cupertino will be there, mallet in hand
to toast their trip to New zeland!

Alex and his group infected me with the polo bug at the Sacramento Segfest!
Since I'm only 20 minutes from Long Beach, I was hoping to put together a team of local seggers.
I've got 4 home made practice mallets and if there's even a passing interest in this, I plan on purchasing some real mallets, so all anyone would need to bring would be a helmet!

I'd like to, but I'm facing a 60 to 90 minute drive each way (assuming light traffic), possibly longer.
I can see making the trip once or twice, but not the half dozen or more times it would take to get in some good practices.
Did I mention I dislike driving across the L.A. freeway system? I dislike driving so much, I got an apartment only 1.5 miles from work. Before I got the HT, I often walked or rode a bike. I guess I'm spoiled.
Anyhow, If there's anyone in the Western half of the San Fernando valley interested in polo practice, please consider contacting me through my profile.
Although many of the baseball and soccer fields in local L.A. city parks are often crowded, I know of a couple of underused city parks in the area were we could practice.
I wouldn't mind carpooling to Orange so much, if there's someone else around here who wants to make the trip. The diamond lane helps the commute a little.
We (Southern California) need to get a good challenge going for the Aftershocks, after all, we wouldn't want them getting overconfident after their Woz cup victory...

I'm interested...as we get closer to the Segfest in October other people in the area will become more enthusiastic. Until then we could meet closer to Bystander. I think he's lives between us, right?
I'll also offer to pickup folks on the way to Bystander since I'm the furthest west. I should be able to handle 2 other people and their Segways in my wagon.
I'll be in Segway's chatroom at 7PM PST tomorrow (Thursday, Mar 23) if anyone wants to set up a date and time for the first practice in real time.
ps - cmonkey, you gave me a source for polo mallets (and I believe there's a model specificly for the Segway under $40)...what about a source for polo balls so I can practice on my own beforehand?

I'm sure they would all be there. After you play once you just cant stop.

Okay, okay all you CA segpoloistas. Seg polo has been alive and well on the Right Coast for almost 4 years. As the home of US horse polo in 1896, we play with USPA rules, real mallets and on real polo fields. Disorganized 'til now, we're actively looking to start a league here in Greenwich and one in NYC. Polo anyone??????

The only way to play SegPolo....or the snotty way, not sure :D
Real mallets, real helmets, real polo ball......on a real Polo field.
Although I won't be able to bring a team from Dubai I'd sure like to play on a team in CA!

All is right in the world. At 1:10 CT the first pitch will be thrown!

FYI: the ball we use can be found here:
http://www.athleticstuff.com/astuff/product.asp?s%5Fid=0&dept%5Fid=17750&pf%5Fid=RSHB%2EAF&
You need to poke a small 1/8" hole in it, 90 degrees from the one already in it, to prevent p-series tires from popping it.
We've tried over a dozen different balls and this one performs the best.

David ~
Brian Kane has been somewhat inactive on the chat lately, but I KNOW he will be interested and excited to get SegPolo going again here in the O.C. He has about a dozen rackets and a variety of those foam polo balls as recommended by Alex.
Let me know if you need his contact info.

Thanx, I've got his email.
I'm hoping to get an order put together to get a bunch of regular 40in. mallets from gladiator sports.
I expect more polo interest will stir as the weather warms up.

Great! I ordered a 40 in and they shipped me a 42.... ok since I'm just a few inches shy of seven feet tall on a seg. I figured I'd order at least 5-6 more for myself so if anyone wanted to play (3 on 3) I'd have all the equipment handy. All anyone would have to bring is a litte enthusiasim and a helmet.

...as we currently have the WOZ Challenge Cup on loan from the US (while we promo the game), the Kiwi's will do their best to bring a few hotshot players to Segfest. We'll be bringing the cup back to the US ready for the 2007 matches...can't wait :)
