The SegwayFest Location Committee is still mulling this one over. There are 11 cities - all great options for fesT - that have put in bids...

So where would you like it to be?

william - I used a zip tie! I only had white ones, I'll have to get a black one so that it doesn't look so "broken".

Will - How come FEST is spelled fesT?

why is it spelled funny - well there have been several ways over the years. SegwayFest, SegwayfesT and it was just shortened to fesT.

Why, who knows....

No to get those decision makers on the stick and get them to vote on a location....

Someone does know why and that person is me!
The reason that SegwayFesT is spelled this way is that the "T" represents the control shaft of the HT. We used this form on the very first announcement of the FesT
and on on some subsequent mailings way back in 2003 in Chicago.

Thanks Father Time - fesT With a T is an icon in the gliding community!

And Chicago in 2003 will always be remembered. While DRAFT was in DC this week, I relaized how many strong bonds of friendship, and groups like DRAFT and SEG America came out of that Labor Day celebration...

And your crew was the whole reason that happened. A couple of Segway crazy folks, who conned some new friends into having a party for folks they never met before.... And that now is the Segway community of owners who look forward to a fesT every year.

Thanks for that! From all of us.

How about a update on whats happening with the voting?
Rumor has it John Grobal is no longer working for LLC, which means one less person on the nominating committee.

Why would his not working for LLC mean one less person on the nominating committee? John is just as avid a segwayer as the rest of us.

Pam, I am as avid a fan of the segway as the rest of us, But JG had a unique role at LLC, being both a booster and a omnibudsman.

If the rumor is correct, then As much of a fan as he is, he is no longer a 'official' at segway and therefore has no official power.

Actually Dr. Grohol, has all ready cast his three votes as he represents the manufacturer.(still does, until Segway gives us a new contact.) Now to get the rest of the committee together to do their thing.....

Rumors are often unfounded truths.

Dr. Grohol has left Segway, but is still working for them on a consulting basis. I am sure once Segway hires his replacement, that there will be an announcment made. For the time being John is still SA's main contact at the factory.

Once the fesT location committee comes up with it's top three choices then it goes to the SA board for their final vote.

The SA Board has a lot of stuff going on right now. It is in the final aspects of the by-laws (thanks to Karl) and with the WOZ Cup happening, it is best to let the spot light shine on Segway HT Polo for the time being.

But not to worry, fesT planning is well underway, speaker proposals are being reviewed, and events for fesT are being planned as we speak.

Lol.... "official power." I never had any "official power" when I worked for them full time. Like everyone else there, I just tried to ensure we were doing right by our current customers each time we rolled out a new product, upgrade, accessory, etc. amongst the million other things each employee there does. I've never met a more enthusiastic and dedicated group of people.

It's true, though, that I recently left Segway full-time to pursue something more in line with my career objectives. I have a consulting agreement with them for awhile, and we'll see how it goes from there.

You are only as old as you feel! - Where is that picture of you gliding on the Sunday of fesT DC? This is just one of the kids out there!

LA would be fantastic for me. We could do the Venice glide again. Not to mention the fact that the glide from the Santa Monica Pier north along the coast to Temescal Canyon Road is absolutely gorgeous. Did it again today.

I'll chime in again... LA for me!

I've done some gliding around the 3rd st promenade, and would love to do another glide down there. Say, from the pier to sunset blvd and back? My camera and my seg need some new scenery!

LA for me, too. We live near the Trump National Golf Course on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. There is incredibly beautiful coastal access through the course and along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. We glide past the course waterfalls, small lake, and greens. The trail is maintained in the manner you might expect since it is adjacent to a Trump facility.

Participants would likely need to be bussed to this location if it were to be part of a glide, since it is about 20 miles (??) from Venice/LA.

I love LA.

We must remember that there are many reasons to hold a fesT at a particular place, and I would think that one of the most important is a group of people willing to do the huge amount of work required to hold a fesT.

I would think, if you want a fest in your particular area, one good way is to make a committment to help out.

I believe that the committee that is looking into it should be narrowing it down soon to the top contenders....

At one point in time here on SC (not so long ago, actually) it was deemed necessary that any thread with the subject of SegFest be immediately yanked over to the "events" forum. It makes me happy that this thread has been allowed to exist and flourish here where people actually chat. Being able to see the discussion without hopping forums is what will generate excitement and make for a successful event. It's what brought so many people to SegFest 2003, no question about it.

Yes fesT 2003 we would not have a SegwayFest today if it were not for those Chicago gliders...

OK the field has been narrowed down to five, now that the committee has its votes in.

San Antonio Texas
Milwaukee Wisconsin
Sarasota Florida
Akron Ohio
Los Angeles California.

Now the SEG America Executive Committee will take those five cities and reveiw them to see which of them will meet the goals for SegwayFesT 2006.

Which are - A Fun Time, Good Gliding, Freedom to Glide, and a
supportive local SEG/or Segway Business to help with planning and running
the event.

But in the mean time - Who Won The WOZ CUP????

Disney World., (LOL) like that could happen. I like Milwaukee,. It could become, the town that made gliding famous. Like, Liberache, beer, Harley-Davidson, Alice Chalmers, AO Smith, Marquette, Fonz, sausage, cheese, Golda Meier, Malorganite.

This year the EU cities did not make it. Only San Antonio, Miluwakee, Akron, Sarasota and Los Angeles made the cut.

But not to worry doing a European Segway adventure is under consideration.... Hey the Woz Cup of Segway HT Polo was just held in Auckland New Zealand this past weekend. Where the Americans and the Kiwi's played a number of matches.

Maybe in 2007 you should consider returning to Chicago for SegFesT.

That place is a showcase for Segway dealerships and tours, as well as a model for local acceptance with city airport, police and park folks riding around on HTs. I doubt the downtown area of any other city in the world has more built-in institutional acceptance for the idea and utility of the Segway. The SegFest 2007 could draw attention to this success story.

[Lille, France may have had Chicago beat for institutional acceptance for awhile with their "Station Oxygène®" segway concept, but I'm not sure they still are actively pursuing their vision; http://www.segway.com/aboutus/press_releases/pr_120304.html]
