View Full Version : Celebrity spokesperson?
Buckaroo Banzai

Why hasn’t Segway signed up some celebrity spokespeople to help the cause?
There are plenty of celebrities out here in Hollyweird who support alternative fuel pursuits and pro-environment technologies. $ome might not charge tons of money either.
Just for fun, who would be a great spokesperson for Segway?
An actor, musician, sports figure, scientist, politician?
Maybe team up an unlikely group of celebs from different fields and fan bases gliding together to change the world for the better?
Peace,

But now it's a little easier being green with this Segway I-180 commuter model.

Maybe put them onto a 21st century transportation product and off of that 19th century one... And of course have them wearing WOZ Cup Shirts to support the Bay Area SEG Team!
Plenty of Celebs have HT's - Ask Jared, Dick or any of the Segway Dealers that have sold units to local sports and entertainment personalities.... And of course what does America see on a regular basis, Ellen (who I love) riding a Q (which makes me turn her show off!) But as they say all it takes is Money!!!! And most of those Celb's business managers will not let them do ANYTHING for FREE!

I agree. Lance Armstrong is the perfect dude. Intelligent, athlete, and a potential olive branch/bridge to the bike culture that normally might not hesitate to spit/rip on a segway rider (Bike and Seg folks should be on the same side).
He could say, "Hey, sometimes I don't want to pedal, but I'm not going to hop in an SUV just to run down to the video store."
(then glide off on a yellow i180)

I don't think that would make Subaru very happy. Not when they are paying Lance $12m to sell Outbacks and Foresters.

Hey! For once I agree with JohnM about something!
I think the whole celebrity endorsement thing is pretty iffy, anyway. I think it would be too hard to predict the effects any given celeb's endorsement would have on the public, even if Segway felt like paying/was able to pay the big bucks to try it. They'd probably end up paying even bigger bucks to have some agency figure it out.

In Japan I saw this ad where Kevin Costner was hocking iced coffee sold out of a vending machine.
The english versions of this ad said "Man of Heart."
It didn't make me want to buy his brand of coffee.

They could take famously klutzy, uncoordinated celebs and show them gliding gracefully and effortlessly. Show off the Seg's capabilities, instead of just trying to sponge off of a celebrity's reputation. Even has-beens would be effective, as long as they're still recognizable and memorably klutzy.

Nope. Bad positioning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positioning_%28marketing%29) I don't think many want to be like your klutzy celebs. And I personally don't see all that much to want to emulate from Hulk Hogan, who has a Seg and who happens to live in the next town south of us.

No, I disagree. It's possible for someone to be klutzy and still be liked and respected. An excellent example is Sandra Bullock- she often/usually plays klutzy characters, but she's someone that most people would be happy to get to know. Some other examples that come to mind: Chevy Chase, slowfooted NFL quarterbacks like Drew Bledsoe or Bernie Kosar, Whitney Houston. I'm sure there are plenty of others....

Someone mentioned this earlier, but has anyone seen the new Ford Hybrid (Kermit) commercial. It's pretty cool. I can imagine Kermit riding around on a p-series HT :)

Yeah, like that Super Bowl commercial with all those football peeps and... HARRISON FORD??? Reading Dr. Seuss, nonetheless. Man, to see ol' Indy reading children's poems with such enthusiasm and aplomb, I thought I was going to vomit upon myself.
After that experience, I turned off the Super Bowl and got started on a nice game of Hexic HD on my Xbox 360 and tried to forget about the travesty I had just seen.
Did anyone else notice the bizarre train-wreck I was talking about? Anyone else find it strange to see Dr. Jones with his earring and goatee reciting rhymes in what HAS to be the most bizarre and unnecessary commercial I've ever seen?
I find it on par with Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, only this time I didn't see boobies, and instead I saw a "career malfunction" with Mr. Ford.
But I digress....

I thought that in the last couple of years he remarried, and it was -- hmmm, Calista Flockart, and she was very definitely preggers. Maybe he's just an old new daddy of a young child, and has an affinity with Seuss.

Yeah, but that still leads me to wonder what he's doing in a commercial with Joe Montana and other football-related types... I mean, did Harrison play quarterback for the Seahawks?
Didn't think so.
