View Full Version : Touch Up Paint For Rims

The i167 I bought has some of the black paint worn away on the left tire (rim). It's only on the left side so it may have been transported on it's side. Is there a way to touch up the rim easily?

I'm thinking of some of the reflective decals that fit on the rim to add a little color, but the paint misssing would detract from the look.

Have you considered using a permanent black marker instead of paint?

I wasn't sure if it would work, but that was my first thought.

Sharp, Do they sell something like that for the i167?

The titanium color definitely needs something to dress it up. I've seen several spinning hubcaps advertised but wonder how trustworthy the vendors are and how durable they are.

Singman,

This is part of a custom job we've recently completed. Hopefully, we'll get permission to show it soon!

I don't see why we couldn't do i167/i170 rims. It would just depend on what 'look' you wanted! But...lol, I've got some ideas!

Email me if you'd like to discuss it!

Peace,

I cannot speak for all the vendors, but I have been running spinners for years, and have never mis-represented them.

The ones I use are made from chromed plastic chineese auto hubcaps. Very flashy, but not too much. I also am quick to say that they do not do well to sideswipe, like going thru a doorway that is too narrow...

I feel myself to be trustworthy. I have also done business with many others in the segway community and on this chat. I have no problems at all. Do not confuse the people here with the unknowns on e-bay and the like... Keep your eyes open, and use common sense.

I choose not to start out by assuming that people are undependable unless they have given me some reason to believe that they are...

The comment wasn't meant to be a slam at any vendors. I see so many times be wary of such and such; on ebay for example. If it was I appoligize.

I have read may posts here about such and such being a good person to deal with, and that was what I was hoping for.

Are the spinners easily removed for transit (Segway Hauler) or are they on pretty tight?

How would I see what you have to offer?

I'm very much interested in doing something to add a little sparkle. I'm switching from a 4 wheel scooter which was red to a titanium trim. I'd like to find something to compliment my wifes red 2 wheel scooter.

I went to the dealer this morning and the carriers are designed specifically for the new Lith-Ion batteries. The bracket has at least 1-1/2" of clearance so the upgrade will not be a problem later on.

Thanks for the heads up!!

The 3m reflective material to cover the wheel looks pretty good, and it's available in different colors.

I have had my spinners on my machine while my machine was on my hauller several times...

The first time, I did have a problem, I would guess from the odd airflows of being on the seg while the seg is on the back bumper.

I choose to simply use a small bungie cord to stop them from spinning while on the seg hauller and have logged thousands of miles on the back of the car in this manner.

I eventually also made an enclosure that goes over the seg while it is on the hauller, so that eliminates all those issues. Pictures can be seen in my photo album if interested...

I have also sent a private email...

What does the new wheels look like without the inserts. Anyone tried that?

cmonkey, those wheels almost look invisible, when the lite hits them doesn't it? Have you tried putting that blue material inside those scallops?

I'm not sure, but I think I saw where someone had put mirror film inside their wheels. Inside the scallops would also be cool I think. Does anyone recall if and who it was? With the mirror film while riding on pavement or asphalt it would appear almost invisible or floating, or the wheels look hollow.. My nephew had a Harley Fatboy with painted graphics on the fenders that looked like pea gravel, or limestone gravel, it looked really cool. He's sold it now though.

On the Segway related Red Key site is a company called Human Transport Direct that sells wheel graphics. They look pretty sharp, and I'm thinking real seriously about ordering the full set for my i167. It needs something to bring it to life.

I was thinking about it, but I decided to leave the factory black reflectors in the scallops. With the flash they really light up. Here's what it looks like without the flash.

One of these days, I may try a different color in the scallops, like red or yellow.
