I'm planning a cross country trip from SF to LA in April. If you're interested, reply to this thread or respond via email (my email address is in my profile). If you're in the Bay Area, you'd be a perfect travel partner for logistical reasons.
You'll need to have a Segway with Li Ions batteries (any i80 or upgraded i67/i70), and be willing to purchase a spare pair of Li Ions batteries for $800. The trip takes 10 days and starts on a Friday (April 7th or maybe later like April 21st). Travelling 40 to 50 miles per day, we follow established biking routes along the California coast and have a hotel to stay in every night (add $75/day for your own hotel room and food).
Hopefully by that time, the Segway Seat will be available for purchase. So folks should have $1500 to $2500 to cover these additional costs before considering going on this trip. Of course,
you can sell your extra set of batteries for at least $500 at the end of the trip, but why would you do that now that your a seasoned x-country glider ready to take on the big trip across the USA!
ps - I'll be towing a cart behind me that carries the spare batteries, chargers, tires and clothes. The goal is to be self-sufficent. No chase car.
