I been reading some post here and at other sites.About some Seggers that have a Loose CS and looking for a fix rather then BUY a whole new CS...Mine isn't loose yet but your pile of stuff for a Stainless Steel clamp like is used for water hose's on an Automobile. Put the CS where you want it and clamp right above the collar.Would keep it from getting lower But still would rise if you pulled on the Cs..Now a fix for that would be drill a small hole and put a screw in below the collar(Being careful of the Wires)..Sure would save the cost of an NEW CS..what are they like $500.00 without grips etc

Why not go with the classic? Duct tape.

Like Karl said, [Duct] tape;
Packing tape in my case is a GREAT fix!

Nah...That leaves a stick residue after removing it...Clamps much easier and a clean fix . And My Swiss Army Knife has the screw driver

If I understand the "packing tape" technique, the tape is not applied directly to the control shaft, but rather to the flaps inside the control collar "nut" (the thing that tightens).
The thickness of the tape makes a shim that allows the friction of the tightening collar to be restored enough to function as it once did. One or two layers (as needed) of tape is supposed to do the trick. Thicker duct/duck tape might work, but maybe only a patch of tape would be needed, rather than encircling the entire flaps assembly.
So no sticky residue on the shaft itself. And no visible tape either, as it's all put inside the tighening collar, sticky side against the flaps.
I haven't had to resort to this myself yet, as I am tall enough that I always have the CS out to it's maximum extension, and seldom move it. (only for storage in another vehicle during transport.) The flaps under the collar of my CS are cracked, but haven't fallen apart yet.

Bystander makes a GREAT and I mean GREAT suggestion, one that I hadn't thought of before. The "flaps / fingers" on my 170 are indeed cracked, and I placed the tape ON the control shaft (upper portion) but I am going to try and place the tape on the flaps the next time I need to change it out. As Bystander said placing the packing tape on the fingers instead of the shaft is a cleaner option to my tape solution.
Thanks!!! More heads are better than one when it comes to improving on a good thing!
