I would like to see Columbus Ohio considered for the next Segfest. I am not from Columbus but it would be within a reasonable driving distance to go to it.

Will there then be just one fest ?

At this point one fest is proposed. The three fesTs for 2005 were great, but a lot of work for an all volunteer army!
The the Local SEGs are encouraged to be more active this year in doing things, like community parades and events that will encourage folks to come out and enjoy their HT's in a group setting.

When will the event be announced (dates and times)?
wwhopper

Feburary - to early March is the timing now to announce.
Once a location is selected, and the local hosts understand all that is involved with a successful SegwayFest, and then accept the challenge of hosting all those Segway gliders!
We can announce a place and a date!
We are looking forward to a great 2006 for Segway owners and enthusiasts!

Well if it is because he is OutStanding in his Field, he better get back into the dealership and start selling Segways! - After he gave me a guided tour today (via the internet,) I just hope we can keep him out of the stockroom.

Hi Will,
My guess would be that Brussels is not really likely to happen, am I right?
Otherwise let me know, I know some people in the EU which I might be able to wake up to come over to Brussels :D
Why don't you do a poll with the proposed locations, then people can vote for their prefered location.
Kind regards,
Florin

Stranger things have happened..
Those are all the cities that we got proposals from. Now it is up to the committee to make a recommendation to the SA board, on what they feel will be the best fit for 2006, as well as an interesting venue for gliders.

I suppose there is NO chance for UK to host a SegFest?
If you wanted to bring Segway enlightenment to the unenlightened masses and indeed a great many of the decendants of your great great great grandparents then there could be no place more suitable than the UK.
Our village is perhaps too little (although a neighbouring village does host the annual WORLD Conker championships!!) but there are thousands of venues to choose from and an added benefit ..... spouses can visit Harrods!!
I live in hope!

From UK to Brussels it's not that far. I would definitly come to Brussels to get the chance for meeting European gliders. By the way Brussels is a nice town.

I agree with Alex, I would also definitly come to Brussels.
Perhaps SegAmerica can do an US and an EU event.

It was great to have so many folks in different cities interested in hosting SegwayFest for 2006.
The SegwayFest location committee will meet later this month (the SA board has a meeting tommorow that will go over that prior to sending it to the committee) and each location will be looked at with a keene eye and a stable gyro!
We would love to have as many people come to fesT this year, since I think it will be one of the best ones yet.

Last week the list - now up to 11 cities - to include the the Vilinas Lithuania proposal that showed up on this site - went to the SegwayFest 2006 location committee for them to whittle it down to the top three.
If you want to lobby for your favorite location, contact Chris Johnson, John Grohol, Dick Segar, and Stan Dobrowski, they make up the fesT 2006 location committee.

An open Letter to the Segwayfest committee
Dear Sirs, And John.
A Segwayfest should be in the center of a travel hub, the exception was when it was at Segway Inc (but that was a joyus exception) with cheap travel and hotels available.
I would love to attend a Outside US Fest as well, but if its only one a year, I vote for L.A.
There is MORE then enough to do there, and lots of nice areas for segging, excellent eating venues and in L.A.
A seg????
who would give us a second look?

"Now I bet there are a lot of folks are sorry they missed one of the SegwayFests around the country last year, where upgrades were included in the price of the event." --Will Hopper ( in another thread)
Any chance the free software upgrades will also be a part of Segfest 2006 ?
Is anyone comfortable traveling by air with their segway??? I certainly am not. And I would imagine that a majority of folks coming in by air wouldn't be either. So I hope there are enough rentals for those who will be there by plane.
Just wanted to put that out there, and piggyback on Jonathan's post.

Every year, in conjunction with other Segway® HT enthusiasts and Segway enthusiast organizations (such as SegwayChat and SEG America), Segway LLC supports a national gathering for the Segway HT community.
Dubbed SegwayFest, 2003 marked the first year of this gathering and was attended by over 150 people from around the country. SegwayFest! 2003 was held in Chicago while SegwayFest! 2004 was held in Bonita Springs, Florida. Each SegwayFest offers in-depth workshops, educational seminars, "Ask the Experts" sessions, social gatherings, Segway HT skill competitions, special guest speakers, and more!
Location for this year has not yet been announced, but when it is you will hear about it here first.

Atin,
Welcome.
I think MagiMike got that info from this site:
http://www.segwayfest.com/
There's a link there to some photo galleries.
The Segwayfests are sponsored in part by Segway Inc., but they are organized by local dealers and/or enthusiast groups working with Seg America.
I haven't been to Segwayfest or a Star Wars convention, but from what I've read, the Star Wars conventions seem to attract a larger number of people.
But if you hear from anyone who's ever been to a Segwayfest, I'd expect they would probably rate the Segwayfest over a Star Wars convention.
If you look some old threads here at Segwaychat, you ought to be able to find plenty of posts about past fests.

Looks like the Red Key is gliding in somewhat the correct direction on the 2006 fesT location.
The biggest question, is the local SEG or Segway business providing back-up and support for the event.
