So tonight was the first I ever used the Segway in the cold and making endure the conditions. I started from my warm basement ... everything fine and beautiful.
When I got to my buddies house, I left it outside in the cold.
30 degreees outside.
I partied till about 4 a.m. ... (roughly 5 hours in the cold).
I started it up no problem.
I got going no problem but it stayed in plain face mode .. "reduced performance"
It would only let me go slow. Going up hill was very sluggish.
When the hill peaked, and it was time to go down .... it flashed RED FACE with NO BATTERY BARS for a while. I stayed on to see if it would shut down with me on it, but it didn't. I got off, and it continued to flash red. I hit the mode button to see if it would stop .... it continued to flash red (w/ no face) and beeped like an alarm.
It shut down. I gave it 20 seconds and re started. No problem. Continued home with intermiting "reduced performance" face happening ... but it was reduced performce for 85% of the ride home.
There it is. Was I bummed out? I little. Did I expect it? Yeah ... I know electronic stuff like this run slow in the cold. The remedy I guess is to never leave the Segway off out in the cold.
This thing rules.
