Is anyone planning to glide the Doo Dah parade in Pasadena this year? I'd love to join in, but am not sure of registration procedure, etc. I think it is held the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

I just checked the doo dah site. The parade is Sunday, Nov 20 at 11:30 AM. Participants are asked to gather no later than 10:30 b/c of traffic.
Fee is $10 per person to participate in the parade. No charge at all to view it. Entries need to register as a group. Is anyone else interested?

Sounds like fun to me. I've always wanted to see the parade - being in it would be even more fun. Maybe.

So did anyone sign up with the Greens (or anybody else) for the Doo-Dah Parade?

Lots of people have read this posting, but Mr. Protocol is the only reader to express interest.
We took our family to view the Doo Dah Parade about 20 years ago and we really had a blast. I am sure that gliding in it would be fun, too. I haven't signed up with the Green group as I was hoping to see if we could join a group of Segway enthusiasts.
Maybe we will hear from others as we get closer to Nov. 20.

I contacted the Greens and they say they'd love to see us there. "Gentlemen, STOP your engines!" is the theme this year. Wear green, put outlandish green decorations on your Seg, and you'll fit right in (it says here).
... Hmmm.... As I think about it, sounds like a St. Patrick's Day parade, doesn't it? Maybe we should join the LA St. Pat's Day Parade as, say, the Galway Gliders...
I have been in the DooDah parade several times, several years ago with a bicycle club that no longer attends. If you do attend plan to attend prepare to spend around $10 for parking unless you park about a mile or two away and glide to the starting area. I don't think there will be any place to charge. There is a park which is a staging area for the parade, which is grass -- one year it was very muddy. It can be over an hour wait. But it is a lot of fun

David,
Craig and I are going to go to the parade as spectators. We are going to glide around Memorial Park, where the participants gather prior to the parade start. Then we will glide the parade route. Will we see you there?

Well that was fun!
What a bunch of nut jobs! How do I sign up?
Ok, How about this... Anyone want to be in next year's doo dah parade?
Lets all just go as one giant polo team. Maybe we can get Segway to give us 100+ nerf balls emblazoned with segway.com..... and we can 'play' and hit them into the crowd!
I love my magic carpet!

I was in the Doo-Dah Parade today. The only folks who answered my call for sponsors were the Green Party, whose theme this year was "Gentlement, Stop Your Engines!"
Mine was the only Seg in the contingent, which consisted of a biodiesel Mercedes, a bunch of cyclists, a woman in a wheelchair, a couple pushing a shopping cart and one really cute woman pulling a little red wagon. We all did circles and spirals along the route. (No, since you ask, I'm not a Green Party member. But they were the ones who spoke up and invited Segways.)
As far as a polo team, remember, this is Doo-Dah. It pays to be a lot crazier than Segway Polo. This year we had the Olympic Nap Team, a bunch of people in track suits pushing other people in wheeled beds, and the Hibachi and Barbecue Marching Grill Team, who all wore charcoal briquette bags on their heads like chef's hats, and carried individual (working!) barbecues in front of them like peanut vendors.
No, for Doo-Dah we'd need something like the Precision Pizza Parlor Delivery and Drill Team, where we wheel along in formation, each balancing a pizza box in our right hands. Actually this would be a great venue for the Electro-Angels, if anybody remembers them. They'd fit right in.
My personal favorite from this year: the motorized couch with four people on it. They weren't in the parade per se, they zipped alongside it, up and down the parade route. I don't know what that couch used for a motor, but it really stepped out.
