Has anyone ever tried just letting people get on their Segway for a few minutes? Charge them $3.00 or something? I am wondering if that would work.

Thanks,
Jack

It is definately a way to make some quick cash but when you start charging people for rides, there is a lot of liability. If someone would get hurt then technically you would be responsible.

I would think the liability is there whether you charge for the ride or not. We are thinking about trying a "pay for ride" project sometime this fall. We will have them sign waivers and wear helmets because that's what my insurance company has told me to do.
I'm not certain about the liability aspect, but rest assured, if someone gets hurt on your Segway and wants to sue someone, $3 or not, you'll be sued.

What insurance company do you have for the Segway? Is it for just you riding it or for renting them for rides? How much is it a year?

I know someone who got a double sawbuck from a individual for a short ride.

I once got 1/10th of a double sawbuck! A guy gave me a $2 bill for letting him have a ride, and he insisted I keep the 2 bucks!

I pulled in 800.00 one weekend at a festival in our town. It can be done.

I was at an Alternative Transportation festival recently, and we were giving free demos. Up the hill and a few hundred meters away, a rental company was giving the same demo for $ 5.00. People said they would rather the free one, but seemed to have no problem ponying up the cash.

It is a matter of your own values. I don't charge. I also don't feel the obligation either. Everyone has to make their own call...

I believe that if you were sued as a result of a demo, it would be looked upon differently as a matter of liability if you were doing it for profit or not. That few dollars would not be the deciding factor, but would surely be an influence in the assignment of liability...

We did Segways ride last Sat for $5.00 for a hurricane fund and took in $400.00 in two hours.
