View Full Version : The "WORD" from Fest

Just what was that word? It was being said all over fesT... At resturants, at Farmer's Markets, or just to say it...

The word that all the "men" were trying to say and when they said it, women just smiled...

Wen Bias got it, Stan D did not, Fred Kaplan had it the best, but he is from Hollywood, so what can you expect! Others tried, and not many could say it with all of the hhhh's that it needed.

And no one got the SNAPs that went with it...

How many laughs can you get from a toothpick?

Okay, I don't like to pass on inside jokes that no one can understand who wasn't there. Jonathan had some great toothpicks that were FABULOUS! and from that point on, everything was FABULOUS!

In planning the event, Will insisted on a very narrow list of weekends for the FEST in DC. He knew when the best weather was and we had FABULOUS! weather for a FABULOUS! fest!

Oh go ahead and pass on the inside jokes, that is as much apart of the fesT experience as passing out photo cds is on the last day of the fesT...

The movies and photos that David Sterrett N1DAS took are wonderful and amazing, really capturing what happened. Can't wait to see TPKanaley's and MacGeeks shots...

Fa... Fabul... I am having trouble saying it again, Where is Wen to say it, he had it down so right. Now to teach him the snaps to go with it....

Jonathan, You WERE Faboulous!

And now we hear that you are BiSEG (translation, belongs to two SEGS, his home SEG of NY, and now a DCSEG member too)

We are planning a glide to a chipotle in a week or so to go over what we did right, and what we did wrong, and when we are going to do this again!

Another inside story was when Jon's e glider was parked next to a turned off I laying on the ground. And the rocking motion became a little X rated.... Someone said, "so that is how P's are made."

I heard that story early on Sunday morning, after several days of no sleep, and started laughing and could not stop. Not even sure where this happened, back in NY or here at fesT!

Well, no matter what word any of us might use to describe the DC fesT, it really was a blast. I went in knowing very little, and knowing no one, and left 3 days later with a big smile on my face.

It was great putting faces to many of the names I've come across repeatedly on this chat. As a non-owner (thus far) I really did hate, though having to return my rental to Dick Segar from Annapolis at the end of the 3rd day. The separation anxiety was sort of scary...

At the end of the fesT yesterday, as I walked to catch the Metro to Union Station for my return trip to Baltimore, I caught myself thinking.. "OK, how quickly could I get there if I were gliding?" or "How would I maneuver this curb?" and so on. I suspect I'm hooked. Actually I don't suspect it at all, I KNOW I am.

And finally, many thanks to Will and Tim and to all who helped organized this really fun and successful event. Also, kudos to our glide-guides (gluiders?) for giving us some great tours.

Hope to see everyone again at a future event. Maybe next time I won't just be renting. :>)) (that double smile makes this a Seg smile).

I had a blast at the fesT! It was a pleasure to capture the fesT in movies and photos. Sharing the memories with everyone afterwards is the best part!

My favorite is where I'm shooting video of the protestors and a girl next to me in the crowd tries to "warn" me to be careful so I don't fall off the machine. I was shooting video and had both hands on the camera at the time. I was briefly operating "hands free".

Girl: "Hey...be careful on that thing...even the President couldn't stay on one of those!"

Me: "It wasn't turned on...his wasn't powered on...that's why he fell."

Girl: "Ohhh..."

I continue videoing the crowd as she starts to ask me about the machine.

Girl: "Is your's ON?" (Sounding confused.)

Me: "Yep...It balances itself...it's totally self-balancing."

Girl: "Oh WOW!"

My digital camera is OLD compared to the new cameras available and I can only shoot 32 seconds of QuickTime video at a time. Just as I'm running out of video, I pan the camera around and capture the priceless look of amazement and disbelief on her face. The look was captured in the very last video frame. Absolutely PRICELESS! I think this video clip should be captioned "Make sure your Segway is turned ON".

The CDs I gave out don't include photos and video I took of Sunday morning's glide to DuPont Circle and the Farmer's Market. If anybody wants a CD of these photos and video, send me an email with contact info and a mailing address.

Sharing the memories is one of the best parts of the fesT. I think some time should be planned in the schedule on the last day of future fesTs so that people can get together and pass on CDs/DVDs of photos and movies. It's sometimes a scramble to catch up with everyone you promised to give a CD/DVD to before they leave.

I had a blast at DC Seg Fest!

It was Absoluuutely Faabulous!

A great time was had by all, and the DC Seg deserves all the accolades that can be heaped upon them....

I was talking on the phone last night with my sister and my Mom, both of whom live near Charlotte, NC. They mentioned that their Sunday Charlotte Observer newspaper had carried a Segway article about the Fest in DC.

As it turns out it's the same article we saw in the Washington Post, including even the one picture of us gliding at an intersection.

I thought this was good news.

Will, Brittany and I had a great time and can't thank you guys enough for putting together such an event. I got to meet some really great people, and really got to see DC in a new light.

Jim, I hope you are sleeping a little better now (I think it is almost like an addiction after the first glide)... Give me a call sometime and come take a glide with my wife and I.

Thanks for the experience and the hospitality DCSEG! Once we get things rolling a little more, we will have to hold an open house, and have a nice tour of hagerstown...

Austin, thanks for the glide invite... I'll take you up on it. Also, I'll let you know how my glide goes at Gettysburg next week. I'm treating my sister and brother-in-law to a two hour tour, as a surprise. She knows how I'm addicted, maybe now she'll understand why.

Was out in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico (fantastic Air Balloon Festival, BTW) last weekend, tried contacting the Seg dealer there before the trip, never rec'd a reply to my two emails of inquiry. I was bummed out, now wondering if he's still in business or not (but not for long if he's going to ignore folks!). Santa Fe doesn't seem too Seg-friendly, just that the sidewalks are narrow and few if any have curb cuts, at least in the old part of town.

My hosts in Alb were quite interested in knowing more, especially about the new golf model. They could easily buy a couple of them, no problem.

Enjoyed sharing the table with you and Brittany at the Fest banquet, also with Wen, even though we never did get our Manhattans. Oh well...

Jim

I received an e-mail from Brendan Moran at G4 (TECH TV) yesterday saying that the
SegwayFest segment was pulled up and aired last night 10/4/05. I didn't get the
message until too late. The good news is that it will re-air today (10/05/05)at 12 noon Eastern.
