Maybe SEGWAY LLC thinks, that the owners of a P-Series Segway are not interested in LION Batteries.
Maybe they will bring it to the market, when a lot of P-Owners on SEGWAYCHAT say:" I WANT THEM!

Oh, I think they know. :) P-owners on the Chat have let them know in volume. (Spoken as a p-owner)

This may sound a bit snarky, but,

Even if Segway LLC agrees to your <s>demand</s> request, a considerable amount of patience may be required.

HT users with the i-series requested increased range for many, many months before Segway LLC announced they were actively working on a range-extending lithium-ion battery pack.

Segway LLC will not release an un-safe or un-tested product, so it was many more months before they announced they were ready for sale. This occurred late last year.

The new packs weren't actually available for purchase until March of this year, and then only with the purchase of a new vehicle. Existing owners were promised they could buy the batteries by themselves "Summer of 2005".

You may have noticed that summer is over. Due to unforeseen occurrences, Segway LLC has not been able to make good on it's promise, and tentatively expects to be able to ship Saphion packs in November.

I'm not complaining. Although disappointed, I don't mind waiting. The more new HTs sold with new packs, the better, as there will be more HT usage at large.

So, go ahead and use your caps lock key and type at the top of your lungs for all it's worth. But you're still looking at a 24 month time frame, according to Segway LLC's track record.

The question of LION Batteries for the P came up at the recent SegFest in DC. My brother asked Doug Fields if they were in the plan. He told us that they are currently not in any timeline, but the P is popular in Europe and he said "I won't let the P die". This leads me to believe that there will indeed be LIONs for the P down the road. How far down the road? I think the answer is nobody knows.

This is only conjecture on my part, but under a certain recent "administration" at the LLC it was all but certain (even as late as 14-16 months ago) that the p-Series was slated for discountinuation. Remember the Sam's Club sale, done without notification to the dealer network?

And yes, it was Doug who saved this great little machine--his baby--from extinction. Doug has vision. The people that the LLC's board of directors have hired for the past few years to "run" the place ... well, that's another story.

That ... (ground clearance notwithstanding) is why I don't think we'll see Lithium Phosphate batteries for the p-Series anytime soon. The LLC and Valence can't produce something that may never have gone into the development process in the first place.

Again, just conjecture.

I bet a major redesign of the P Segway is in the works.
More portable, cheaper and with better range.
