DATELINE - Washington DC Thursday September 22 2005
While driving in downtown DC, every where you looked on this date there were folks gliding about on Segways just going about their daily business.
A lone glider going up one street. Several gliders standing on a corner waiting to cross. A tour group glides slowly by. A bunch of Segways parked outside of a resturant. A couple of gliders heading in yet another direction. Today Washington DC with Segway HT's all over, everything was just as normal as any other day.
And you know what, it was all SO RIGHT. Folks walking on the sidewalk, other folks on Segways, others on bikes on the streets, and car and truck traffic everywhere.
The only difference was that the Segway riders, were able to get around town so much easier than those in cars, and go so much further than those on foot.
Just a nice normal Thursday in Washington DC. No one would know there is anything happening here other than just the occurance of daily business.

Segfest 2005 in DC was a hoot! My brother flew in from Huntington Beach and we had a great time gliding with new friends and old. Will and his team did a super job setting it up and keeping it moving, despite a major Washington protest march that about surounded our Hotel! As usual the LLC demonstrations and seminars were great. I wish I had my camera handy when Derek Hugger set his segway on its side with one wheel down and in power assist mode - laid himself on the other wheel and did a horizontal cartwheel spin - actually I would have needed a video camera to do the extreme stunt justice! Here are my best photos:

Just got back from Segfest. Peter was right, it was a HOOT! Will and the DC Seg group did an excellent job of hosting. Fantastic group glides in different sections of the city, great seminars by LLC and Seg America. The Monster Garage Seg(Karl "Jesse James" Sagal - complete with tatoo's) vs The Pimp My Segway HT(Jonathan "Skinny the Brain" MacGeek-Gleich) was the highlight of the saturday morning lineup. A late entry was Stan "The Hammer" Dobrowski competing with "Paint my wagon". I think all decided it was a draw. We were pictured in saturdays "Washington Post" with a short story about the DC Segfest. Our own Dave Sterrett (n1das) took a plethora of fine photos/videos of the event thru out its entirety. He aso rode thru some of the protest march and recorded some interesting bits of the demonstration. Lots of the event pictures will be posted here in the next few days no doubt. Steve Kemper (the "Ginger" story) was with us Saturday & Sunday and went for a few group glides. All in all, a great time was had by everyone there.
Thankyou DC Seg, you guys did a great job!

What a great event! Will and the DC SEG members (recognizable by their red DC SegwayFest shirts) did an incredible job organizing this SegwayFest.
Each of the previous four SegwayFests had something unique and special; well in this case, I've got to say it was the glides. There were organized glides on Friday and Sunday which were great. And this SegwayFest was smack in the middle of a large, Segway-friendly city, surrounded by shops, restaurants, museums, etc. People went out to eat, to see the city and just for the fun of it. As everyone who has been to a SegwayFest knows, gliding around with friends is the best part of the event. In DC, there were plenty of destinations and miles of wide sidewalks, with curb cuts at each corner and about 80 people to enjoy them with.
The speakers where very good, different types of speakers than what we've seen before. The sessions were so good in fact, that I couldn't tear myself away from any of them and totally missed the change to see Concept Centaur again.
As always, it was great to see old friends and meet new ones. The people are what make the events so memorable.
Regards,
Joanne

other than the Washington Post,

did anyone find any other printed copy. I understand the tv stations did coverage of the glides and vendors.

(to) Itsi,
Jon's (Macgeek) segway is a work of art. Seeing a gracefull segger in motion is art in motion. There was an artist in NYC at an event that I went to that said my machine was artfull in a similiar manner to his, in that his was with paint and mine was with lights... I believe your taxi and others are also quite artfull.
We all create art, and your paint on canvas is surely another good example...

Do _not_ try this at home!
Suffice it to say the spin rate is quite a bit higher then red-key turning and you should not try this unless your last meal is well-digested...

I can just see a rash of "helocopter spin injuries" for seggers...
I cannot nor will not speak for others, but my wife would make hay with this one. (If she caught me doing it.) I believe the key would be to do it when she is not home, and buy the new lamp before she gets back...
