All you early adopters have ridden for awhile, now. Have any of you experienced a wet ride? By this I mean riding in the rain or snow.
PT you've mention 60 days on it. Have you been caught in the rain?
Frank, Pam, Brooster, Jameskk, Mr.Techno? What did you wear to keep from getting wet. How well did this work? What are other drawbacks to riding in the rain other than getting soaking wet?

I drove in light rain - I used a raincoat. No problem. If it is cold, I recommend gloves as your hands are exposed.

Hey there Ken, good to see you here with us. I remember you from the "old days."
I'm not an owner yet, but I have had a few rides ... none of them in rain or snow.
PT's really the expert on this, being in Seattle and riding to work and back every day. I'm guessing some sort of rain suit or sailing-type foul weather gear would do the job pretty nicely. I'm a sailor, so I can tell you that spending the extra money to invest in good equipment the first time around is a wise decision. My foul weather gear is made by a company called Henri Lloyd, and it's served me well for many years.

it rains almost every day in seattle this time of year, and i take the ht to work almost every day too. it's not a problem.

everyday almost. i were a rain proof jacket and a hat, works great.

i've never got soaking wet, if it was super-duper-build-an-ark-rainy, i'd take a car in. but so far, even in the rainy season here in seattle i get to work each day and i'm dry.
i thought it might be slippery on the ht, but the tires and traction are better than i expected, i've yet to slip off with my feet and the ht has not slipped on the roads / sidewalks.
cheers,
pt

Hey Brooster.. Glad to see someones not forgotten me. I'm curious too what Pt has to say about any wet rides, too. Do you have your SHT ordered? Maybe this spring when I visit my sister-in-law in Chicago and you've gotten your Segway we could hook up? She lives in Carol Stream (northwest suburbs). Know where thats at? Hopefully she will still be there in spring, her husband works for United there and may not have his job by then. Don't know. If she does she will probably move back to Indy.
Wonder if one piece pants with built in footies and a parka type jacket and googles would be adequate? Looks like Pt posted while I was sending this back....

Hey Ken,
Yep, like I said, PT is the man with the experience, being out there in "Rain Country USA."
And yep, I have mine ordered. Well, actually, LadyBroo ordered it for me, as a Christmas gift (and for the next few Christmases). :D See the Owners' Roll Call thread.
I know Carol Stream, IL very well. I grew up not far from there. I'd be delighted to get together with you this spring and give you a demo ride if you're around. Just send me an e-mail before you come, and we'll find a way to make it happen.

I'm also in the Seattle area and have ridden a couple of times in the rain. The first time I was wearing a hip-length barn jacket, the second time trench-coat. (Both times, a helmet, too.)
Observations:
1. As pt notes, it would have to be get-on-the-ark weather before you'd *have* to switch to a car.
2. It seems that you stay drier riding a Segway than you would either walking or riding a bike. I suspect this is because you are upright and thus exposing few horizontal surfaces for rain to hit.
3. As deviant notes, gloves are a very good idea.

Here you go Gadgetmanken, here is my experience on a glider in the snow from a previous post I made.
Well guys I went out and did about one hour and thirty-five minutes of Gliding in the snow today. I thought I was on my monoski in the wilderness of Blue Sky Basin at Vail, past the Back Bowls. The feeling was as if I were at Belle's Camp, the very peak of Blue Sky Basin, and had taken the express lift up to the pinnacle of the peak and proceeded to do a smooth glide down in virgin powder for about a mile, none stop. There was only on problem; the powder was only three to four inches in most spots and maybe a few spots of about five inches. But the virgin powder over the gritty fine dirt parking lot was a true inspiration for a true Ambassador of the Glide.
When I say I was gliding in virgin snow, you just have to imagine. The depth of the powder was as if it had been laid out for Hollywood by one of the Segway engineers. The powder was as even as if it had been measured to just barely skim the battery packs against the first crystal layer of the virgin powder.
Though I know I was gliding , it was amazing to sometimes look back and see tire tracks and ask myself where did those come from? Upon coming to the realization that my glide did produce tracks, I started to do my ski thing (large figure eights) crossing over my own glide tracks. Then it hit me, as I stopped making large figure eights I started to glide the parallel of my own previous glide path. The result of this forty five minute parallel gliding of my own previous path turned out to be something I had only seen on TV. I was Seging through imaginary cones and moguls as I performed my Glide with True Grace, the result of which appeared to be, Seg Snow Circles or but for the lack of green fields, Snow Crop Circles.
And Frank thanks to you, I decided to load my IPod (windows version), with So Happy Together and Kung Fu Fighting (thanks KaZaa) just to help add that extra smoothness to my Glide. And yes I always monoski with my mp3 player.
