The Harley folks would love it. I bet we could get Itsi to test ride it!:)

Cute...

But as an E167 model owner, I have to say that I am insulted that the author is picturing a P133 and calling it my machine.

My top speed with a real E167 was about 85 MPH. It was on the back seat of the rental convertable last October in Florida, going from the airport to segfest04...

Ok, so this brings up an interesting question that I have never seen answered in any detail on the Chat (at least since I've been here):

With the current software/configuration, i machines can go up to 12.5 mph -- a little more in pulses when the stick is hitting one in the chest.

Now, I have heard that someone with bicycle wheels got up to a bit of a higher speed by using the size of the wheels to "outsmart" the unit -- but the governor still topped him out at a certain point.

I have also heard as a rumor that Dean Kamen has a personal unit that goes up to 15 mph.

My question is IF the governor contained in the HT software were to be taken off completely (except for a safety top end to keep the rider balanced) how fast could the unit (with the stock motors etc.) take one?

(NOTE: Um, if you know how to defeat the limiter, I'd suggest not posting that info. Safety-wise, 12.5 is I think a good top end (especially with the stock wheels and tires the standard HT).

Top speed of the motors would make 20 MPH the top speed with the current hardware. This figure is misleading, though. As Doug Field explained in Sacramento, the "headroom" between 12.5 MPH and 20 MPH is what keeps you upright when the Segway hits a bump. If you were going 20 MPH and hit even a small bump, down you'd go.

That's why the Centaur leans farther and farther forward the faster you go. At top speed, it's a 4-wheeler (only).
