I would like to get some feedback on used Segways being sold on ebay.

Can anyone share with me what price I should be bidding and other stuff to be concerned about?

Thanks in advance

The price is, and always has been, dictated by the market which is true of any commodity, This may be either real or imagined.
Buy low, sell high.

The first thing you want to do is be sure they actually have a Segway to sell. Unfortunately, the HT is the one thing that has been scammed the most that I've seen on eBay. You might checck our buy and sell forum, and read the old posts, to see what people here have been selling them for. It will give you a good idea of what the going price has been.

Check out the price of new batteries on http://www.segway.com/. A pair of new batteries might be your next purchase, soon after your HT arrives from the ebay vendor. You'll try it out and it might show signs of promise, but might not go as far as you expect, or might go a modest distance and then suddenly Go No Farther.

Batteries are consumables and the seller has enjoyed the batteries' best days, whether by neglect or by pleasure. New batteries might fix your problem, but of course you won't have gotten nearly the good deal you went to ebay for!

If the new batteries don't fix your problem, then you will have both a marginal HT and a pair of top-dollar, slowly-decaying batteries on your hands. You might have a hard time returning them to their respective vendors. So what will you do, then? You might take them in to a dealer for repair. But of course you would simply have bought the used HT from a dealer if that were practical. So instead, you'll put them in the basement for about three months because you can't bear to think about it. By then the batteries will be dead. Finally, one fine day, you'll roll up your sleeves and put the HT back in the box and sell it on ebay!!

fcfactory Used I series machines are selling for about $2,500. If you seriously use your machine, you will want the Valence Li-Ions which will be selling for perhaps $1,400. Thus, I agree with amturnip...buy a new machine and have full warranty. Additionally, I know someone who bought through e-bay last year and he is still waiting for delivery(scammed). If you do buy through e-bay, try to get someone from this forum to check out the machine and act as escrow agent so that you don't get burned. The best bet for used machines is through the dealers.

It has already been pointed out that there are several HT scams on EBAY which is very frustrating. Some are obvious with a brand new seller posting and many times they use pictures of previous EBAY postings. There are some legitimate buyers and posting out there however. It is best if you are patient and see if one is auctioned that is close enough that you can go check it out and pick it up. There is, of course there is always the issue of the batteries and how well they have been taken care of.

There are several very good dealers on this forum who I believe will also sell used HT's. Check out the "Buy and Sell" forum.

I bought My seg on ebay, and it was a great deal, But you need to use LOGIC in buying. Whenever I buy a "big ticket" item (and I have bought many off ebay)
I offer CASH and PICK UP - to save $3000 its WORTH a $300 airplane ticket
or a Day (or two) car trip. If the deal is legit they should have NO problem doing it this way.

Batteries are a consumable, and I bought my seg with year and half old batteries, though still good, they lost already 1/4 of there power. so no matter HOW good a deal is, Batteries are a issue!

I sold my first HT on Ebay. Everything went smooth. I had the buyer pay $500.00 through Western Union as a down payment and then I had the FedEx guy pick up the rest of the money(cashiers check) at the same time he delivered the machine.
To ease the buyer's mind I gave him my serial number in which he called LLC directly to make sure it was in my name. Basically verifying the authenticity of ownership.
