I am planning a trip next month on the Trans Siberia Rail Road with many stops along the way. I plan to take my Segway. What kind of problems will I have getting it into Russia, Mongolia, and China? Can I charge batterys direrct from 220 volts or do I need a converter? Need answers from someone who really knows.

A travel shop will have various plug adaptors.
I only find 2 prong outlets around here.
220 will work. The charger is universal.

I would make sure you use a plug adapter and not a "Power Converter". It seems that I remember that power converters are genrally lower power ratings and may not handle the 400 W requirement to charge the HT.

Power - Power converter is built into the HT so all you need is a plug adaptor. The one I recommend (and use extensively) is the Belkin AC Travel Adapter (Part #F8E449). I got mine at Best Buy.
Customs - I haven't had any major issues, but have had to do the Segway demo more than once. Also had to prove prior ownership BEFORE leaving the country. To make this easier, Customs may write the serial number of your unit in your passport. I also recommending taking a picture of you and your unit in front of a recognizable site. Make sure the picture is dated BEFORE your trip. I have used the departing airport and held my ticket in my hand).
