Does serving on the nominating commitee preclude you from being able to run for office?

There is no official rule either way - what do you think should be the rule?
My personal opinion is that it looks like a conflict of interest. If you wanted to fix the election, you could get on the Moms Com and then prevent all other candicates for the office you want from being on the ballot.
This is why no current board members are volunteering to be on the Noms Com - even if they are not running for office. We want the Noms Com to be just volunteers with no specific stake in the outcome of the election. This is the only way it can be fair and open.

I would be glad to head up the Nominating Committee! If you are looking for someone to serve in that position.

I seem to recall that DIck Cheney was in charge of George Bush's committee to find a Vice President candidate...
He chose himself...
I have no idea who's point that demonstrates!

Pam, it is the "Nominations Committee" - the committee that performs a totally open process of accepting and confirming the nominations and creating the ballot. Contrary to what others have suggested, it is not a committee to work in a smoke filled back room to determine the next slate of candidate buddies.
THANK YOU Mr. Hopper. Everybody interested in serving on the Nominations Committee should send an EMail to Elections@SEGamerica.org
So far, we have one person on the Noms Com. I think that three to five people on this committtee would be a good number. So, unless Will has multiple personalities, we are going to need some more volunteers.
Begging for a Noms Com would not be needed if the Exec Bd was not so set on staying clear of this process to avoid criticism. We have Exec Bd members who are not running for office that would agree to be on the Noms Com, but won't because we don't want to be accused of putting thier buddies in place.
However, this causes a more serious problem. Without a Noms Com, we cannot have nominations. Without nominations, we cannot have elections. Without elections, come August 15th, SEG America will fold because there will be nobody to take the place of the current Executive Board when they leave office.
