View Full Version : Transporting my 180

I understand that there are several ways to transport my Segway. I have a truck which surely makes it easier. I bought ramps which I tried once this past weekend and will return as they are a pain to use. My usage went something like ... unfold, strap down (to keep them from backing up and slipping off the tailgate) repeat twice for each of the ramps, roll down Segway, unstrap, refold and put away.... all of this in high heals twice a day is way too much work.

I have seen a couple of different trailer hitch options and wonder what people think. I should add that lifting the Segway into the back of my truck is NOT an option.

Thanks in advance for any ideas....

Transportstion was problem for me also, but after putting a hitch on the back of my car, I purchased a Segway Hitch Hauler, boy did that work out nice. If you have a pick up you should have a reciever hitch already.

I read some other posts and wonder if the problem with the extra battery height has been fixed. I have the extended life batteries. Is the Segway hauler better than any off-market hauler?

The current hitch hauler will not work with machines with the new batteries. It can with a minor modification, but the factory is not yet offering that modification.

I use a hitch hauler on my machine, and I have not yet purchased the new batteries. (Because they are not available to me).

I like the hauler, but it is heavy. It will make it easier to carry your seg with any vehicle that has a receiver hitch. I don't use the tilting feature but most other posters do.

It is very well made and LLC stands behind it, tho I have seen many fine other devices in the after market as well.

Do a search on this forum, there have been many threads that spoke all about it...

If you want details on the modifications that need to be made, just ask...

Good luck...

Each road you travel should be just a bit better for having had you pass.

I use the tilt feature for my Segway. My problem is with the straps. Unless you tie up the straps, when not transporting your Segway, you need to remove the hauler. My wife dragged the straps to the store and back. The buckles are still usable, but are kinda rough. The hauler is heavy duty, but I think there could be some improvements.

CONTACT THE SEGWAY DEALER IN ANAHEIM, CA. THEY HAVE MADE A BRACKET WHICH CORRECTS THE HIGHT PROBLEM WITH HITCH HAULER. THE DEALER IS NEAR LA PALMA & TUSTIN. GREAT PEOPLE.

So do I buy one from LLC and modify it or do I wait for the modified one to come out? I see from posts that it could be awhile before the correct one is available for my Segway? Despite that I feel better getting something that is made and supported (so to speak) by LLC.

The modification that KSAGAL mentions seem like a reasonable solution and according to other posts and easy to make. I think I'll head over to Segway of Orange County and see what they have on hand or I'll place an order with Jim and the good folks over there.

It sounds like a device that goes on the truck for Monday-Friday and then gets removed for the weekend errands to Home Depot with the truck.

Well, I bought a the used one as posted by LegPain. The modification that he made seem to work just fine on my 180. I am very pleased and can get it loaded and unloaded on my own very quickly. My husband and neighborhood have also discussed several more modifications that will make it easier including a solution to the problem that Entil-Zha has with the straps when not in use. You never know, we all may benefit from this. Thanks again for all the help.

I love the small size of LLC's hauler but would prefer something that I could get my machine on and off in under 30 seconds without bending. Could you imagine how much valet parking expense that I could save if it were painless to park 2 blocks away from a restaurant?

We built one that holds 2 Segways and battery size doesn't matter since everything is sitting on the tires. You can see it in our photos at www.SegwayGA.com. They sell for $450 unpainted.
